My face is very sensitive, and I don't like using benzoyl peroxide because it can accelerate aging in your skin and dry it out, stimulating your glands to produce more sebum. I buy cinnamon bark extract, mix it with water, and pat a slight amount on the affected area. Cinnamon is a known antibacterial and antifungal agent. I also make sure to take my flax oil, and at night I don't put regular moisturizer on. Instead, I use a little bit of flaxseed oil. Flax oil is an essential fatty acid that your skin prefers to use for sebum production. When your body lacks essential fatty acids, your skin has to make sebum out of less desirable fats which clog your pores easily. Flaxseed oil will not clog your pores. In addition, I use a moisturizer with green tea in it. Stress hormones or testosterone in your body can turn on sebum production. Green tea is known to block this reaction to some extent, so that you don't overproduce sebum.

As we all know, all of us get at least 1 pimple whether big or small. I've found that using Tea Tree Oil overnight is good. It breaks down the pus inside your pores or your pimples. Also, use facial masks to cleanse your skin at least once every 2 weeks. For those big pussed up pimples, try buying a cover stick which heals as well (such as Clean and Clear's new one).

Most people (myself included) work hard to keep their face clean and pimple free, but after this is accomplished, pushing your daily washing/moisturizing/acne treatment routine to the side is a big mistake. The day you think that you fought off all your acne and quit your routine is the same day they'll start coming back.
on 11/22/2005
If you have a really big pimple and need to get rid of it fast, go to the dermatologist and ask her to inject it. It should be almost completely gone in a couple of hours.
on 11/22/2005
I wash my face 2-3 times a day and after physical activity. After I wash, I just put rubbing alcohol on my face with a cotton swab. If you do get pimples, they will go away quickly.

Okay, this tip is long but read it and you will discover EXACTLY how to get rid of your acne! I did this for about a month and I haven't had a pimple in 4 months! And I now have BEAUTIFUL skin. Honest!
Okay, so here's the day-by-day routine you should follow. Use this in the morning, before bed, or whenever you have the time:
1. When you wake up, wash your face with lukewarm water. Make sure you're gentle and don't scrub.
2. Moisten your face with warm water, then exfoliate your skin with a cleanser that's non-comedegenic. I use Biore Mild Daily Cleansing Scrub for ALL skin types. It's cheap and works!
3. Then if you have time, steam your face. I boil water on the stove for about 5 minutes and then pour it in a bowl and drape a towel over my face. I steam my face for 5-10 minutes, usually depending on how much time I have. Steam is REALLY good for your face. Do it at least once or twice a week.
4. Next you'll want to apply a facial mask. Clay and mud masks work really well. Or you could use an egg mask. It leaves your skin feeling beautiful and looking beautiful. Just beat an egg yolk and let it sit on your face for about 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm water.
5. If you want, you can use a toner now but I don't bother because I have a nice skin complexion.
6. Finally, apply non-comedegenic moisturizer for about 10-15 minutes on wet-moistened skin and rinse off.
(If this was in the morning I would usually just apply my makeup and do whatever but if you're doing this before bedtime, I suggest the following...)
7. Apply medicated formula such as benzoyl peroxide or saliycic acid. I used those and they didn't really work. Wait one or two weeks after using an acne medication and see which one works the best. For me, tea tree oil really worked. I applied it every night before bed and in 3 days my pimples started disappearing. I also used toothpaste before bed if I had a red or irritated pimple. But I didn't use too much because it can burn your skin. Also remember to use lemon juice and zinc oxide cream.
8. Get at least 9 hours of sleep every night, drink lots of water, take multivitamin and mineral pills, as well as garlic or zinc supplements, and eat HEALTHY. Exercising and taking yoga or meditating can relieve stress and remove acne from your life.

You can go out and buy all these products to get rid of those ugly spots. I myself spent quite a bit trying the find the best product, and none of them worked. One day I was reading a magazine and I saw an ad about "Skin Doctor's Blemish Free Pack." I thought I would go and buy it. It's rather expensive ($AUD99.95), but it really works. It's a 4 step routine with everything included: toner, face wash, moisturizer, and overnight zit zapper. Check out www.skindoctors.com.

Washing your face 2-3 times a day is not NECESSARILY a good thing. Washing your face that many times can (and probably will) dry out your face, causing more acne.
Acne is caused by 2 things: overproduction of oil (caused by puberty) and build up of dead skin cells.
I suggest the following to cure acne: 1) Take an all around vitamin supplement. This will help your skin function properly. 2) Wash your face once a day with a gentle cleanser (Purell or Cetaphil). 3) If your face isn't that sensitive, use 2% salycilic acid during the day to exfoliate all the dead skin cells. 4) Use benzoyl peroxide or sulfur at night to kill the bacteria.
Give it 2 weeks to see results. If all this doesn't work, go get a prescription from a dermatologist. If you are reading this, I'll bet the acne is destroying your self confidence...

I can't speak for everyone, but I noticed that when I am stressed out, I tend to break out. Also, drinking water, getting enough sleep, and exercising have all helped clear my complexion. Eating lots of chili/hot foods tend to bring on pimples too.
on 11/22/2005
I actually find it better if I clean less (for instance, I used to clean my face 4-5 times a day, but now I clean just 1 or 2 times a day). I think the oils in your skin act as a balm.
on 11/22/2005
Don't touch your face so much and don't rest your chin on your hand. If you do touch your face a lot, and you do rest your chin on your hands, I suggest getting Stridex acne pads and putting them on your hands.
on 11/22/2005
When you wash your face, avoid over-scrubbing it. Rinse your face off lightly with water, since over-scrubbing it with a towel or other product can spread bacteria on your face and worsen acne. Also, I find that using a small amount of benzoyl peroxide on problem areas helps. Try to drink plenty of water, too.
on 11/22/2005
Believe me, I have tried this and it really works! First, try to cut really fatty foods out of your diet. Then, avoid as much caffeine as possible, as it makes you agitated and will cause you to fiddle with your face, spreading germs. Next, avoid playing computers, as this causes you to sweat and get agitated. The sweat gets in your pores and causes spots. If you work in an environment where you have to use a PC, then do so but wash your face well regularly to be rid of sweat. Also avoid nervous situations. Some people bite their nails when they are nervous, but some people touch their face, spreading germs! Just trust me and give it a try...It worked wonders for me!
on 11/22/2005
After you've cleansed and toned your face, apply a tea tree oil blemish stick (from the Body Shop) to the problem areas. It's a clear color gel and it is an antibacterial gel. It will prevent bacteria from spreading to other areas. After a day or two, the pimple and blemish will be gone.
on 11/22/2005
Always drink lots of water. Avoid sodas, chocolate, and greasy food. For a really red, swollen pimple, put a piece of ice in a damp washcloth and hold it to the pimple. It may sting, but the pimple will decrease in size.
