on 11/22/2005 From my personal experience, the way you live and what you eat really does affect your skin. I'm on Minocin, which was great at first as it controlled my spots and allowed my face to heal, but then one night after going out to a friend's 18th birthday party and working 3 days nonstop, I had another outbreak! So my advice to those of you who happen to live a life where you're constantly checking the mirror is to drink plenty of water, eat healthy, and sleep, sleep, sleep! This gives your skin time to heal. Try antibiotics by all means, but they vary among people. Don't keep washing your face as this will dry your skin out. It might make you feel better at the time as redness is fading, but this will encourage your oil glands to secrete sebum which will make your face feel greasy again. PLEASE don't wash again as irritation will just come back and hit you where it hurts (on your face), for everyone to see! Good luck dudes!

on 11/22/2005 Here's what I do and it seemed to help me...

1) Wash your face with mild soap.
2) Fill your bathroom sink up with almost unbearable hot water, and plunge your whole face downward. Soak for about 2 minutes.
3) Fill the sink up with the coldest water you can muster and, once again, take the plunge, soaking for about 2 minutes.
4) Use some sort of acne medication and hit the sack.

I'm no scientist, so I don't know what the hot and cold water actually do, but if it helps, what does it matter?

Also, drink plenty of water and don't eat junk, but most of all, keep your hands OFF your face!

-God Bless

on 11/22/2005 I admit that my acne is not that bad, but I still suffer and I dread every morning when I wake up and look in the mirror to see if I have any new spots.

I know that usually when you come on to this website, you're looking for a quick overnight cure, but here's some long-term advice:

1. Drink lots of water!

2. Do not eat lots of chocolate or sweets.

3. Eat healthy things like carrots and apples.

I did this for about a week and I stopped getting spots. But the minute I started eating chocolate and not drinking much water, they came back! So take my advice, it works! I also tried tee tree oil, which also helped a lot.

on 12/22/2005 I have had acne for over 3 years. It has never completely gone away, but I found 2 products that absolutely work for oily skin: Loreal Pure Zone. It can be found in any major supermarket. And Proactive, although pimples have no absolute cure, these two products make them almost invisible.
Note: Don't use both products at the same time.

on 12/15/2005 I've tried all sorts of creams that my doctor has prescribed. They didn't work. I wash my face in the morning and drink water all day long. It doesn't help. What does work for me is about 30 minutes of sun. What's great about the sun is that it's out at least a couple hours every day and that's all it takes to clean up acne on my face and back.

on 6/11/2007 If you just HAVE to pop a pimple, make sure you put some tea tree oil on afterwards to avoid scarring.

on 11/22/2005 Exercise. Sweat. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Keep active enough to shed a little water. Sure you can scour the outside of your skin, but it does good to wash it from the inside every once in a while. Aerobics, dancing, biking, hiking, lifting weights, anything that makes you melt with perspiration will keep things running smoothly.

on 11/22/2005 I tried putting toothpaste for 3 hours and all it did is increase it. So I tried garlic juice with a little salt and left it overnight. Man, it is reducing the pimple like hell! Try it yourself. I did one more thing to ignore the smell of the garlic - I put Vick's in my nose and whenever I breathe, I smell nice, cool air, not the garlic. :)

on 11/22/2005 I've used lemon juice at least twice a day to help dry up or prevent pimples. If I get a pimple, I just put a dot of toothpaste and leave it on overnight. Before I do that I clean my face with Aveeno clear complexion foaming cleanser. Try it, it's perfect!

on 11/22/2005 Hydrogen peroxide works (careful though...it can bleach your eyebrows).

Tea tree oil is great (smells a little strong, but not gross).

Toothpaste never really helped me, but after using it for 2 nights in a row, it burned my face so badly that I put burn medicine on it and it took about 1 week for the extreme redness to go away (and I don't even have sensitive skin).

Some birth control pills can help women, but they can also make you fat, sluggish, and nauseated (I'm an athlete, so this caused me some serious problems).

Accutane--we all know this works, but you have to convince a doctor to give it to you, and if you're a female, it's unlikely you'll get it unless your dad's your doctor or something.

Adapalene gel (also called differin) is the best stuff you can get almost any doctor to give to you. There's nothing better for the redness and pain than this stuff. It even prevents pimples after a week or two. I use it, but it's costly.

Benzoyl peroxide works on drying out zits, sometimes too much. You can get 2.5% and 10%, but I haven't found an inbetween one (say 5%). I would use it every other day.

Lots of foods cause me acne, but everyone's different. My worst ones are orange juice, tomatoes, nuts, and soy products. By the way, pizza and chocolate don't cause me any problems.

on 11/22/2005 Tip #1: Put toothpaste on the pimple overnight.
Tip #2: Put "Real Lemon" brand lemon juice on the pimple overnight.
Tip #3: Buy Clear Pore Astrigent or Acne wash and use it regularly.

These all work...I know from personal experience

on 11/22/2005 To make a face mask, get 1 apple (peeled and grated), 1 teaspoon of honey, half a teaspoon of cream, 1 teaspoon of ground oats, and half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon. Mash everything into a smooth paste using a fork. Smear it on your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. Then rinse gently with cool water.

on 11/22/2005 Make a fine powder out of oatmeal using a blender or food processor. Once a week take a small amount of the oatmeal and add hydrogen peroxide to make a paste. Smooth the mixture onto your face and allow it to dry (about 30 minutes). Rub off the dry oatmeal and rinse with warm water. Apply a light moisturizer.

on 11/22/2005 I'm glad someone mentioned Tea Tree Oil. Not only is it wonderful for acne, but works on many other common problems as well. It is nature's wonder. Just make sure that it is 100% pure tea tree oil.
