on 7/9/2008 I babysit a couple little kids that I am pretty sure have fleas and now I have fleas in my house and I don't even have pets! I was recently at their house and their pets are covered with them! I know they have to have them too as they have always complained of itching. (this now makes sense being at their house) So now I have a flea problem and my 2yr old daughter is getting bit up, because they always play in her room. What do I do? As long as the kids are in my house they are just going to coninue to bring them in, you can't put a flea collar on chidren. How do I tell their parents that they are infesting my house with bugs? This also worries me because I have my baby in the house. I am afraid to lay him down on the floor to play anymore.

on 6/23/2008 I just found out I have fleas about 3 days ago and I havo no pets in fact I cant stand animals, rodents, reptiles anything that is not human. So you do not have to have a cat or dog to get fleas. I have sprayedd and fogged and they are still here and my house is super clean. I have a 2 year old and she has bites all over her and now it looks like she may have ring worns on her belly. Arggggggg

on 4/13/2008 I used salt instead of borax when a friend's dog infected my son's room badly (I had to toss his pillows--couldn't get it all out) and it worked SOwell.

Another method is shallow bowl of soapy water...fix a light directly over it and leave it overnight...amazing how many 'go into the light' and drown.

on 11/6/2007 I have just found a wonderful solution to fleas on very young pets. Johnson's Baby Shampoo. Apply it liberally on the pet, without water. Start on the face being careful to avoid the eyes. Then apply it all over the animal and let it sit for about 10 minutes. You will find the fleas are dead. It's safe to use often.
I worry about all the sprays, spot-on, and insecticides sprayed in the home. Even pyrethrins are converted to xogenous estrogens in humans which can have serious effects and are like having too much estrogen in your body. In other words, they will promote cancer tumor growth. I think we should avoid insecticides at all costs. Spraying only covers the environment with poison. Powders are vacuumed up and are breathed into the lungs. Use all this stuff with extreme caution.

on 9/17/2007 MY BROTHER-IN-LAW HAS 2 CATS. 1 CAT IS AN INDOOR CAT AND THE OTHER IS AN OUTDOOR CAT. LAST YEAR THE OUTDOOR CAT GOT FLEAS NATURALLY AND GAVE THEM TO THE INDOOR CAT. I TOOK CARE OF THE OUTDOOR CAT AND GOT RID OF THE FLEAS. THIS YEAR I STARTED EARLY AND THE OUTDOOR CAT HAD NO FLEAS, BUT THE FLEAS RETURNED TO THE INDOOR CAT. MY BROTHER-IN-LAW DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT THE PROBLEM IS COMING FROM HIS ROOM. HE HAS BATHED THE CAT WITH FLEA SOAP, AND PUT A FLEA COLLAR ON HER. FLEAS WOULD RETURN ON HER THICK AS THIEVES IN 1 TO 2 DAYS. WHY IS THE FLEA COLLAR NOT KEEEPING THEM OFF OF THE INDOOR CAT? THE OUTDOOR CAT DOESN'T WEAR A FLEA COLLAR DUE TO A SKIN PROBLEM BUT I DO PUT THE OINTMENT ON HER ON THE BACK OF THE NECK. ANY ADVICE?

on 1/22/2007 Garlic and Dawn dish soap works wonders. My mothers dog lived to be 19 and we always soaked her down with dawn dish soap and fed her hamburger with chunks of garlic cloves in it. You can also steamvac your carpets with Dawn Dish Soap.

on 9/22/2006 If you have pets, fleas are a constant battle. There is no sure-fire way to be rid of them forever. Here are some tried and true ways to keep on top of them. If you're not willing to engage in this battle, then don't get pets!

1. Mothballs in the vacuum bag, vacuum often and throw away the bags often. I've not tried this yet, but my neighbor swears by it.

2. Borax mixed with salt in the carpets, leave for a few days at a time then vacuum. Repeat often all spring and summer.

3. Flea drops you buy at pet stores don't work. The ones you buy at the veterinarian's office do work if used for months in a row (start in March or April to get a jump-start).

4. Wash your pets' bedding all the time. I have small blanket-burrowing dogs and am constantly running the washer with blankets. Use warm/hot water (if the blanket can handle it) and soap, leave the lid up to soak for an hour or more to drown the buggers.

5. If all else fails, flea bombs do a great job of, at least, weakening the fleas. Then do the above remedies to finish them off. Be sure to get all pets (dogs, cats, gerbils, fish, birds, etc.) out of the house for hours while doing this! I usually shove all pillows into the dryer before setting the flea bombs off so the chemicals don't get into them.

on 9/18/2006 I bombed my house with all kinds of insecticides. I spent over $100.00, if not more. Raid has a good flea spray. It cost $8.00 for a can, but the fleas soon came back. I went to the nearest grocery store and bought a box of 20 Mule Team Borax washing powder. I sprinkled it over the floor at my home, all over the house, on the furniture. The fleas are gone.

I had suffered for over four months. The kids and myself were getting eaten alive. I had these little bumps all over the lower part of my legs and wherever they bite me. I must have bombed each room with two to three bombs for each room. It didn't work. I paid only $3.20 for the washing powder and I still have a full box left. It is a God send. I'm telling you it works. Or if you can get straight borax acid and sprinkle it around the house it is about the same thing. I am so happy and flea-less.
