I like to read in bed right before turning off the light to sleep. This takes my mind off of the things I need to do the next day or other problems. Usually I start to sleep while reading, and then I know that I am ready to turn out the lights.

If you can't sleep anytime at night, lay down at watch QVC or the home shopping channel. They talk about the same thing for a long time and you'll get tired, BUT you might fall asleep on the coach!

Get a good pair of earplugs from you local pharmacy. If you're a light sleeper, these are great. Also try running the air conditioner if it's too hot to sleep.

Fantasizing is one of the best ways to fall asleep. I usually fantasize about a place that I love. I go back to a city I've enjoyed, or just lie on a beach. Focus on your breathing, and say one word like "peace" over and over as you take each breath.

Sometimes when I can't sleep I will tense up every part of my body one at a time, starting with my toes. If you tense them up for about 3 seconds and then relax the muscle, you'll be surprised at how relaxed you'll feel.

While concentrating on slow, deep breathing, relax your body starting with your toes and slowly moving up to your forehead. Remember to concentrate on your breathing.

I have found that a small amount of Lavander ( either fresh or dried ) slipped in between the pillow and the pillow case is extreamly relaxing.

Try to go for a jog after dinner and then take a really hot shower. As soon as you get out of the shower, get right into bed. That puts me right to sleep.

Start at the moment before you got into bed and review the entire day backwards. This not only releases cellular energy to allow for more creative dreaming, but often you'll fall asleep before you get to the beginning of the day.

My mom and I make these beanbag things and we fill them up with lavender. Then you stick it in the microwave for about 30 seconds. The heat makes you relax and the lavender helps you fall asleep.

on 11/22/2005 Deep slow and rythmic breathing work better than ANYTHING else, at least for me.

on 11/22/2005 I once read that having warm feet helps you sleep. I always wear socks and it works for me.

on 11/22/2005 Try watching TV in bed with all the lights off. The contrast of the bright screen in a dark room will make your eyes tired and droopy.

on 11/22/2005 Count your breaths. If you move or if your mind wanders, start back at 1. I have yet to make it to 100.
