on 8/8/2006 Almost everyone hates getting up in the morning when they're nice and comfortable in bed. They tend to visualize what they'll have to do once they get up and it'll make them want to sleep more. Try this when you can't sleep at night. Pretend it's morning, the alarm clock has just gone off and you'll have to get soon. Visualize all the unpleasant things you'll have to do like walk on a cold floor, shave, drive to work/school, finish homework. You'll soon get sleepy and your body will want to fall back asleep.

on 8/8/2006 Don't take naps during the day if you have insomnia, especially after 2 PM. The less tired you are before bedtime, the less likely you'll fall asleep.

on 7/27/2006 If it's late at night (about midnight or later), turn on the TV at a low volume, just enough so you can clearly hear it. Switch to any non-cable channel, especially the local access/community channel. There should be an infomercial on. These are so boring you'll fall asleep very soon.

on 6/30/2006 Write down what concerns you, what has you stressed. Write the problems on one side, and on the other side write the solution for that problem. Then on a third line, write how you will solve that problem.

on 6/30/2006 Try melatonin pills! I took one before bed (on an empty stomach), don't eat beforehand. It's definitely a miracle in a pill, it knocked me out and I slept like a baby. I woke up the next morning feeling refreshed and energized.

on 12/12/2005 Listen to an audio book while trying to sleep. Personally I find Harry Potter books a natural sleep aid.

on 11/22/2005 I know it's very difficult to do, but daytime naps are toxic to proper sleep health for individuals who suffer from insomnia. The best thing you have going for you is drowsiness, so don't take that away by napping during the day!

on 11/22/2005 The best thing to do is pretend you're sleeping. Next thing you know you will wake up in the morning, fresh and ready to start your day.

on 11/22/2005 The ultimate mistake of going to sleep is thinking heavily or concentrating on one thing. If you have something important that you know is going to happen tomorrow, you can't think about it. Even if it's something exciting, like a hot date, if you think about it you won't fall asleep. And worse than thinking is planning. If you plan what you're going to wear, or say, or do - you won't fall asleep. Don't re-live something that happened earlier that day, especially if it was a bad thing. Even if it was a good thing, like a hot date, don't re-live it or you won't fall asleep.

on 11/22/2005 With my eyes closed, I imagine a giant blackboard with all the thoughts in my mind written on it. I then erase the board and stare at the blank black board. If a thought enters my mind (the chalkboard) I quickly erase it. It sounds crazy, but it works for me.

on 11/22/2005 What usually keeps me awake is when I have too much running through my head.
What to do? I usually write a page with all that is in my head and usually it helps a lot!

on 11/22/2005 If you cant sleep. The one thing that DOSENT help is if i look at a clock. I'll know what time it is and it just makes it worse.Your Aware of how late it is. Listen to some light music. Read a book. And just breathe. Relax. Sooner or late You'll feel like you need to go to sleep. JUST DONT LOOK AT THE TIME!

on 11/22/2005 Just keep a low light on, play some of your favorite low energy music quietly, and just lie on your bed (without being under the covers), close your eyes, and relax. Think about whatever you want, just lie there with the attitude that you don't intend to fall asleep. Also, if you're playing music, make sure it won't take much energy to turn it off when you start to get really sleepy (i.e. have a remote to turn off the stereo with a quick push of a button, don't get up). If you plan to be asleep by 10, start lying in your bed at 9:15-9:30. This helps me because I don't feel like there's so much pressure on the situation for me to HAVE to fall asleep.
