on 8/8/2006 On hot, sunny days like these, you will need a lot of shade, so bring an umbrella or sit by the trees.

on 7/4/2006 I know that sometimes getting a large group of people together can cause problems, especially if you are like me and are taking in children with special needs. If this is the case, bring extra blankets and extra chaperones so people can be separated. You wouldn't want your lovely day spoiled with a big nasty fight!

on 11/22/2005 If eating on the ground, surround the blanket with talcum powder. When using a table, draw chalk around the plants. Something about the chalk, keeps the ants away.

on 11/22/2005 Sometimes you need to make a reservation at a park. If you're planning a large picnic, find out in advance. You don't want to be disappointed to find no space - and you'll feel pretty bad if someone who has reservations comes to claim your spot.

on 11/22/2005 Handy wipes can prove to be really handy on a picnic. Although you should take care to dispose of them properly, the antibacterial wipes can help fight against germs and aid in sticky situations.

on 11/22/2005 Don't forget batteries if you like some nice soothing music to listen to. You can pick up any of the cd's with the whale sounds, seashore, etc. at Target at a pretty reasonable price. Have fun.

on 11/22/2005 To avoid fire hazards, many parks and picnic areas do not allow charcoal cookers, hibachis, etc. or any cooking fire at all! Try fried chicken, cold cuts, a smoked turkey breast or a spiral-sliced ham instead.

on 11/22/2005 Nighttime picnics are beautiful with at least 10 candles placed in a circle around the blanket. A battery-operated stereo sets the mood and ... a bottle of wine! Oh and ... the right person, of course!

on 11/22/2005 Don't forget to bring along a compact or disposable camera to take snapshots of your picnic. What better way to remember such a perfect meal and nature spot than with photos to show your friends!

on 11/22/2005 Pack insecticides, sunscreens, etc. away from foodstuffs (incl. plates & utensils!) - put in small sack & let a small child carry it. They love to "help" & won't contaminate any food! Also use netting over salads, meats, etc. to keep flies & bugs away!

on 11/22/2005 When we have a large picnic and have to carry lots of food, beverages and supplies from the vehicle to the picnic site, we take along a wheelbarrow-like cart to carry things. It makes transporting quick and easy.

on 11/22/2005 Take along a deck of cards and some balls and things like that. The games played at a picnic are part of the fun and the memories.
