During the day, pretty much everyone parties in front of the Saida Towers & the Radisson Beach hotel. At night, clubs like Louies Backyard, Club Pelican West, and Tequila Frogs go off. Consider purchasing a fun side trip like a party yacht cruise (booze cruise) or a Padre Pub Crawl ticket as these events will mix you in with thousands of other students. Inertia seems to be the company doing most of the spring break south padre stuff. They have a party package as well for the whole week.

Renting a boat and catching some fish is a great idea. Call the SPI Chamber of Commerce and they will refer you to the best and most affordable captains. Spring Break is a time to watch how much you spend so get the most for your money as it doesn't grow on trees. Getting your own private boat is better than being on a big boat because you aren't with a bunch of strangers that are going to tangle up your line all the time. You will have a personalized trip with the attention you deserve and are paying for. The Chamber of Commerce will hook you up with the best captain around.

Chad is right, the best thing to do is get advice and tips from someone who has lived in the area. For example, I have seen many Breakers try to come back across from Matamoros, Mexico with bottles of liquor that exceed the limit. Want to know what the customs officers do? They break them right in front of your eyes. I never had a straw on me when I watched this horrific alcohol abuse but if I had... Anyway, watch the limits on alcohol. The prices are great. I used to cross every Sunday because I had run out and they sell liquor in Mexico on Sundays and not in the US, for half-price, too. A bottle of Cuervo Gold is $13.00 US dollars in Matamoros. NO JOKE! Also, don't be so wasted that you get arrested while crossing back into the States for PI. In any case, a P.I. is better than a DWI so PLEASE get a designated driver who will not cave in and drink. Party responsibly and be careful.

A couple of other tips about South Padre Spring Break:
1.) Get a condo instead of a hotel -- many hotels in South Padre won't let you bring in your own booze, which means you have to buy it from their expensive pool bars. Remember, drinking on the beach IS legal unlike many places in Florida, if you are 21 or older
2.) If you are a minor, don't drink on the beach. The TABC (Texas Booze Cops) have many undercover agents busting people on the beach.
3.) Continental Airlines flys into Brownsville Airport, the closest one to the Island. There is NO airport in / on South Padre Island. Many times tour companies that build in the air with the condo are actually cheaper, too.
4.) Start networking online BEFORE the trip if you'd like party with a ton of people. Myspace & Facebook, for example.
5.) If you are coming the 2nd week in March (Texas, or Peak Week), come on Friday or Sunday to avoid the traffic. Otherwise, you can expect up to an 8 hour wait to cross the causeway on Saturday afternoon, it's horrible.
6.) Bring some money. Vacations cost some money, bring some cash, travelers check, and a back up credit card. Don't forget your ID, and I highly recommned making COLOR COPIES of your ID (front & back) as well as your credit card in case you get wasted & lose them. Many times, you will still at least be able to drink.
We provide the parties for about 8 spring break tour companies at night. You can view the spring break party schedule that runs consecutively from late February to mid-April by visiting http://www.inertiatours.com/partypackages.html

Instead of flying into Corpus Christi or San Antonio (they are 4 hours and 6 hours respectively to the island), fly into Harligen or Brownsville in a regional valley airport.
If you drive, be careful once you get south of Harligen, Texas on Highway 100...The "policia" will pull you over for going even 1 mph over the speed limit and ticket you with their racket!
