on 8/26/2008 Hi there. I work at Whirlpool, and we recommend a product called Affresh to help eliminate washer odor. Affresh washer cleaner tablets break up many of the residues that bacteria, mildew and mold grow on, and it removes them, leaving you a cleaner washing machine.

For a limited time, they’re running a promotion on whirlpool’s website that will get you free shipping on a 3 –pack of Affresh tablets! You just enter EAF822 as the promo code, and they’ll ship you the packet at no cost to you!

on 5/17/2008 Smelly Washer Cleaner is a completely organic powder that is used to clear fungus from any clothes washer. It works by disallowing cohesive properties between organic and synthetic compounds. The cleaner is used by adding a small amount (1 tablespoon normally suffices) to a hot setting in your washer and allowing it to complete the cycle.
In order to remove fungus spores from towels and clothing use just one teaspoon of cleaner instead of detergent. Rinse and dry as normal.
This product is super simple and works great! Find it at www.washingmachinecleaner.com

on 5/24/2007 The article referred to the washer's lint screen... I wasn't aware that the washing machine had a lint filter, only the dryer. That makes sense though - so where is this washing machine lint filter? Thx.

on 6/11/2007 Add 2-3 cups of vinegar and 5 spoons of salt to the hottest washing cycle. Run the cycle without any clothes in it. For the best effect, you can keep this solution in washing machine overnight.
