Return to article: How to Remove Ballpoint Pen Ink Stains From Fabric
on 4/23/2009 some ink will come out after being dried.. but it is harder..
on 4/23/2009 I've done this with just spraying the hair sprayed on my husband uniforms and rubbing it off with a cloth.. I have found that using the alchol and then hairspray was easier as less scrubby.
on 1/10/2009 will hairspray or rubbing alcohol work after the shirt has been washed, dried, and ironed?
on 12/7/2008 Thank you so much!! Just bought a $400 coach purse LAST NIGHT, and stupidly put a pen there today when I went to use it for the first time...got home and the damn pen had opened and scribbled ALL OVER my new purse!! And now it's all gone - hairspray totally did the trick!! :)
on 11/10/2008 thanks a lot for the tip on how to remove ink stains from clothes, it really worked!
on 10/22/2008 Alcohol on the stain, let it set for a min, then with a toothbush scrub for a couple sec with a 1/2 and 1/2 mixture of Dawn dishwashing detergent and water...rinse with water and rewash. You can also use the alcohol to remove the ink from the dryer!
on 10/22/2008 My husband just washed and dried an ink pen with his load of clothes, including a brand new WHITE tee-shirt...I searched numerous sites how to remove the stain and decided to combine a couple methods and it worked FANTASTIC...there isnt even a remnant of the stain on the white tee!!! Here is what I did. I used a turkey baster, filled it with menthol alcohol (I am sure regular alcohol would be fine but I was out! ) I saturated every spot and let it set for just a minute, then I took 1/2 dawn dishwashing liquid and 1/2 water and a tooth brush for just a couple sec on each stain ...I rinsed with water and it looked great! REWASH. I also used the alcohol to wash the inside of the dryer, a few swipes and it was clean...no mess!!!
on 9/19/2008 just be careful because everyone is going to tell you something different. a lot of people will say, just let the professionals do it... (but you have to pay them something like $150 whether they get the stain out or not....waste of money!) Some people will even tell you, stop putting more chemicals into your carpet, you'll just ruin it.... okay maybe you'll scruff it up a bit, and make the carpet look really fuzzy, but ignore them. because the stuff i used wasnt HARD chemicals necessarily. and i washed it out quickly with water, so its not like a million chemicals were just soaking into my carpet.
on 9/19/2008 but it wasn't coming out quick enough... so I did a combination of a few tricks. (all in a matter of minutes...) 1) vinegar and baking soda... then a few minutes later 2) scrubbing the stain with oxyclean powder then a few minutes later.... 3) taking my bleach pen and mixing it with water and leaving it on the stain for a few minutes... then a few minutes later.... 4)scrubbing the carpet with soap and water... then let the towel absorb all the water thats in the carpet. 5)then, spray the carpet with Oxy Spray and let it sit there. the fabric in that area doesnt look as tight and new as the rest of the carpet. you can tell it looks fuzzy and worn. but i dont see yellow any more! it took a while for the stain to go away with just the oxyspray alone. i would recommend steps 1-4 above if you don't mind making your carpet look a little scruffy. just be careful because every
on 9/19/2008 my old "brother Mfc-210C printer" started leaking YELLOW ink (from the bottom of the printer) onto my tan/white carpet!!! and it would not come out for days. maintenance men came up to look at it and told me they 95% sure it wouldn't come out. i was so upset... and i was so worried because i'm leasing this studio, so it doesnt belong to me. so if i couldn't get the stain out, the money would be taken from my security deposit... okay it took a while to get the stein out but i did it. I kind of did some no-no's, but it worked after a WHILE. first i would spray the carpet with Oxy Spray every day and leave a towel over it because the bottle says "spray generously to dampen, holding sprayer 12 inches (30 cm) from the stained area. do not scrub or blot the treated stain. just spray and walk away. allow area to dry. Oxyspray will gradually break down and remove the stain." but it was
on 2/3/2008 I would like to know if any of the suggestions for removing ink stains was done on clothes that have been dried and rewashed and dried again...I know about the hair spray trick and if you get it on fresh ink it works most of the time but I've never had any luck on set in ink. These are all pink item and I really would like to save them if possible...does the dishwasher soap really work and can it be put in a front loader?
on 9/12/2007 Thanks to all helpful suggesters. THE ALCOHOL WORKED FOR ME AND QUITE EASILY: I didn't have to rub especially hard with paper towel soaked in alcohol, though I did have to be a bit persistent, repeating the process a few times, but it was REALLY EASY. I would add only that, after the removal it was necessary to rub the entire area with water to remove a sort of ring from the fabric, but that was quite easy too. Thanks again.
on 7/8/2007 I have a fabric sofa and my son has spilled coke all over the back of the sofa. How do I get the coke stains out without damaging the texture of the couch?
