Return to article: How to Remove Yellow Tinge From White Cotton
on 2/18/2007 add dishwashing detergent for electric dishwashers into the wash it great for whitening.
on 1/21/2007 Great! Thanks!
on 1/21/2007 Excellent!
on 9/21/2006 There is a product called bluing (your grandma probably used it). WalMart still sells it. You follow the directions on the bottle to whiten yellowed cotton.
on 8/8/2006 I have seen that this helps the yellow under arm stains. Mix half water and half white vinegar in a spray bottle. Spray generously on the problem areas before putting the item in the washer.
on 11/22/2005 Iron Out is a great product, but be careful when pouring the powder in the washer. It has dry fumes that affect breathing. It is best to use a mask. This product is also good at cleaning grout in the shower. It will remove any color!
on 11/22/2005 Do not wear deodorant with aluminum. Not only can the aluminum cause health problems when it combines with perspiration, it results in the yellow tinge in clothes.
on 11/22/2005 Get Mrs. Stewart's Bluing from the store (harder to find these days but available). A few drops of this optical brightener in your wash makes your whites brilliant again, in the manner that Grandma used.
on 11/22/2005 The easiest way to remove yellow stains is to soak the stain in water mixed with clear ammonia (a few drops of ammonia in half a glass of water). Let the item soak for at least twelve hours. The stain disappears.
on 11/22/2005 After a normal wash with chlorine bleach, and a thorough rinse with clean water, add one or two cups of white vinegar to a second rinse. The vinegar neutralizes the chlorine.
on 11/22/2005 I use a product called Iron Out. Iron Out cleans better than any bleach made. It comes in a powder. You just add it to your wash water, let it stand for 5 minutes, then wash your clothes with your regular detergent. I promise, you won't believe how well it cleans your white clothes.
on 11/22/2005 If you use extra bleach, put the load through a second rinse. The bleach can irritate people with sensitive skin, especially babies and young children.
on 11/22/2005 Placing heavily bleached cottons in the bright sunlight can cause them to rip to shreds - a story my mother learned the hard way and told me about washing baby diapers.
on 9/10/2007 Use 1 cup of bleach with 2 cups of dishwashing crystals. Let them soak for 1/2 hour, then add your laundry soap.
