Ive just managed to take out brown hair dye from my patterned skirt!
Firstly i washed the area alone in washing up liquid i used persil.
Then i took a white towelling cloth and dabbed the area with malt vinegar...not much happening but maybe a little lighter tho hard to say,
Then i dabbed some of asda bleach onto the area using the white towelling cloth and as i did this it lifted!!!!
Now i dont know whither it was all three one after the other, but i tell you ive got my skirt back and im delighted,
i did not soak overnight or use anything that was expensive but maybe using all three so first step,
wash with liquid and hot water to area
Dab with vinegar sarrisons i used
Then dabbed with asda bleach....just one after the other it worked!!
I hope this may be of use, as it was for me, ive got my skirt back but it would have been better if id worn my old clothes!

on 6/14/2007 hi well ive just removed spots of brown hairdye from my patterned skirt, i cant believe it and this is what i did.
Firstly i just washed the area with washing up liquid and rinsed, ok nothing happened, then i got a clean white toweling cloth and dabbed some sarisons light malt viniger on it, just dabbed it, hm looked only a shade lighter but nothing much, then again using the toweling white cloth i dabbed some asda lemon bleach on it...just dabbed and as if by magic it dissappeared, now i cant say how it would be on a wider area but it certainly worked for me so i hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem just use all three washing liquid, vinegar and bleach sparingly, on a white toweland on the material, i didnt soak at all, and see if you get the same result!
Ive got my skirt back...but it would have been better to have prepared properly! lol

on 8/8/2006 I have read use dish detergents or even store brand hair dye removers; my two cents is this: do not be stupid in your desperation to remove an unwanted color and resort to such nonsense!

Do what I did: I saved up $200 and went to a professional beauty salon and they removed all the black hair dye and now it looks great and back to my natural color. You cannot dye over black hair, you must first let the professionals remove the black and then re-dye.

I repeat, do not be stupid and use dishwashing detergent or some other over the counter cheap garbage. You made the mistake once of dying it yourself, don't be stupid and make another mistake doing it yourself! Go to a professional, or you will regret it and end up cutting all your hair off, or even worse, it will start falling out!

Do your homework and look up color expert salons in your area, at least make an appointment for a consultation--unless you went to beauty school and have 20+ years experience in professional hair care/beauty--leave it to the pros!

on 7/22/2006 As a hair stylist I know that it is the alcohol in the hairspray that removes the hair dye from clothing. I keep a spray bottle of cherry almond alcohol (smells good) at my station and use it immediately on my clothes when I get splattered. It also helps remove dye from skin.

on 11/22/2005 I just want to comment and say thank you. The suggestion of spraying with hair spray removed the hair dye completely and easily!

on 12/15/2005 My daughter is a stylist. I have used lemon juice and cream of tartar to remove hair dye. Rub in the lemon juice and cream of tartar with a soft toothbrush. Then apply liquid Tide and wash the item in cold water.

on 11/22/2005 As a hair dresser, I often get color on my clothes. But, if I spray immediately with hair spray, then when I launder the item, the color always comes out. Make sure to saturate the stain with the hair spray.
