Return to article: How to Defog a Diving Mask
on 12/15/2006 When I worked at a dive shop, we used soft scrub to remove the manufacturing film. Then the spray bottle of baby shampoo/water for a quick defog.
on 7/13/2006 Use toothpaste. It works very well.
on 11/22/2005 You can use dishwasher anti-spot to keep your mask fog free and it's far cheaper then the anti-fogging solutions at most dive shops.Tony
on 11/22/2005 If your mask is brand new, you need to first remove an invisible film left over from manufacturing. If you don't, your mask will continue to fog easily. To prepare your mask, use your fingers to vigorously rub a small amount of non-gel toothpaste onto the inside of each lens surface. This removes the manufacturers film. Rinse thoroughly. It's only necessary to do this in the beginning. After that, you can use spit or commercial defog and enjoy better, clearer (and safer) diving.

on 11/22/2005 Use some toothpaste (not a gel) and a little bit of water to gently scrub the inside of your mask, using your fingers. This removes the coating from shipping and makes any anti-fog solution you use more effective. It smells minty fresh when you're diving, too!
on 11/22/2005 By spreading it inside your lens, you can use it to wash it and to de-fog it also. Rinse just once, ensuring yourself there's a remaining thin layer of soap all over the glass.
on 6/30/2006 Rinse your mask in water. Take a quarter size amount of any kind of toothpaste and using your fingers, scrub the entire inside of the mask. You will not need to do this every time you use your mask. You won't believe the results.
