on 8/31/2008 Thank You for this video. My parents didn't seem to trust me just following the instructions on the side of the water heater, even though in my opinion they are pretty straight forward. I have a gas fireplace in my own apartment, works the same way... not complicated!!!

Thanks for videos that give the older generation a little more confidence!

on 6/15/2008 THANK YOU! My husband was out of state and I needed to relight the pilot. He tried explaining it over the phone, but your video helped so much by showing me exactly where to light it! You saved us! :)

on 3/31/2008 There is another aspect of lighting the pilot in step 3 which you failed to mention, which will be of great help to people who have never done this before. On most hot water heaters, there is notch built in to the control knob, immediately below the word "On" (you can see this on the video). When you turn the control knob to the pilot position, this puts the notch in the exact position so that the reset button can be pushed all the way down. If the control knob is not positioned just right when in the pilot position, the notch will not line up with the reset button, and the reset button will not go all the way down. This is of course a safety feature.

on 3/14/2008 Thanks for this great little 'how to'! I must admit that it is quite intimidating to me to lean down over a gas orifice and purposely hold a match there... ^_^;

You've been bookmarked, and I'll definitely be back here next time I need to learn something new about my home!

on 12/9/2007 This is great. Even though I have the manual of the water heater, I was not sure if it's safe to try relighting it. This video allowed me to confirm that it is safe and easy & a normal homeowner can do it. eHow is great! A big thank you from Canada.

on 8/6/2007 Thank you! I'm bedbound and my 15 & 19 year old daughters live with me. My daughter tried to turn the water off because there was a leak in the bathroom, and instead, turned the gas off, which let the pilot lights go out. We couldn't get a friend, or afford to pay someone, to light the pilot light. This was a big help to my daughters. Their being able to watch the video of it being lit, made it so much easier for them. Thank you and God bless you, Lisa
