on 11/22/2005 Using your SLR camera in manual mode, you can measure light level: Set camera ASA speed to 200. Set camera shutter speed to 1/125. Hold a large, white card (or sheet of paper) in the proposed plant location so that it gets max illumination. Be sure that nothing but the white card is showing in the viewfinder. Adjust f-stop on camera (or lens) until camera meter reads "correct exposure" f4 = 64 foot-candles f5.6 = 125 foot-candles f8 = 250 foot-candles f11 = 500 f16 = 1000 f22 = 2000 f32 = 4000
on 11/22/2005 If you get frustrated because you keep making mistakes, look down at the keyboard, but keep your fingers on the right keys. Soon you'll learn the feel of them, and you'll be able to look up on the screen. Try to practice typing while doing something you enjoy, like writing an e-mail, or creative writing. Try to stay accurate at first, rather than trying to speed it up. Soon your fingers will remember the more common words. If you use an Instant Messenger, practice with that. Practice in chunks. Try five minutes of practice, and then a few minutes of non-practice. If you put it to use, you'll pick it up a lot faster. Also, don't practice if you're just copying a paper that was already written. You have to keep looking back and forth, and it isn't worth the practice.
on 11/22/2005 When you are learning to type, make sure you sit straight, with the computer keyboard or typewriter placed exactly in front of you, and your hands hovering slightly above the keyboard with only the finger-tips touching the keys. Remember never to rest your hands on the table or the keyboard. This way you make far less mistakes, and typing will be less tiring and more enjoyable.
on 11/22/2005 Many beginners who want to learn to type make the mistake of trying to type fast instead of trying to type accurately. Typing fast is not important for the beginner typist; typing correctly is important. Whatever your speed of typing as a beginner, do take pains to type correctly. Once you master the key strokes through regular practice, your typing speed will increase automatically without much of a conscious effort on your part.
on 11/22/2005 If you are having trouble keeping your eyes off your hands, consider putting a folder over them. This is how my typing teacher had us take tests.
on 11/22/2005 Avoid resting your palms as this causes your wrist to bend. You can use a keyboard pad or rest to help.
on 11/22/2005 If you cannot make yourself stop looking at the keys while typing, at least keep your fingers in the right places. Do this until you're confident that you've learned the locations of the keys, and then work on speed and not peeking.
on 11/22/2005 I learned how to type myself and now type at 90-100 wpm with very good accuracy. One thing you wanna do is develop speed first, then worry about accuracy later once you reach a given speed. Try to familiarize yourself with words.
on 11/22/2005 I just recently learned how to type correctly. I find it easier and more efficient to start by typing familiar words like your name or address. It really speeds up the learning process.
