Return to article: How to Open a Stuck Jar Lid
on 3/26/2009 There is actually a product called the OneTouch Jar Opener that can open any jar with just the push of a button. I use it because of my arthritis. Check out this site to see a video of it in action: http://www.healthwellnesshub.com/onetouchjar.php
on 3/26/2009 There's actually a product on the market that can do this when all else fails. It's called the OneTouch Jar Opener. You can watch a video of this product in action here: http://www.HealthWellnessHub.com/onetouchjar.php Best of luck, it has worked like a charm for me :-)
on 5/1/2008 I tried using the rubber bands that come from veggies in the market and was able to open a really stubborn jar. Thanks for the tip.
on 5/1/2008 I tried the rubber bands from the bunches of veggies that you get in the market on a really stubborn stuck jar lid...it worked like a charm to open the lid. Thanks for the tip
on 5/1/2008 I just use a sharp tipped knife and stab the top of the jar, it breaks the vacuum of the jar to easy to open and takes less time for the jar to be open.. to easy!
on 5/1/2008 I just use a sharp knife to put a small hole in the top of the lid just by stabbing it, it breaks the vacuum of the jar.. to easy
on 4/30/2008 You can also wear a rubber glove to open difficult jar lids. It works like the rubber band or duct tape trick but is less trouble. They also make special rubber discs to use just for the purpose of opening stuck lids but the rubber glove trick works equally as well. Also, the trick of tapping a butter knife around the edges (gently) works great too! Just be sure to tap gently so that you don't break the jar and ruin the food product in the process.
on 4/30/2008 I find that what works best is to turn the jar totally upside down and gently hit it (squarely or roundly) on the wood butcher block in my buckboard wagon. It reverses the pressure on me and the lid.. and you can eat those delicious peach preserves that Mrs Ingalls gave you last summer much quicker.. yum..
on 4/30/2008 If it's a new jar, turn it upside down, hit it 2-3 times on the bottom of the jar to release the air pressure (you can feel and sometimes the vacuum release), then turn it over and it usually opens quite easily!
on 4/30/2008 If it's a new unopened jar, I've found if you turn the jar over and hit the bottom of the jar 2-3 times, it releases the air built up at the top of the jar (you can hear the vacuum pop!) and it usually opens quite easily.
on 4/30/2008 The Kuhn Rikon Gripper Jar Opener works well on lids from 1" to 3.5" in diameter.

on 4/30/2008 Just slip on a pair of rubber gloves that are usually always in the kitchen, one hand to hold the jar with and one hand to turn the lid with! Bingo!!
on 4/30/2008 I purchased round rubber jar openers that are sold in most grocery stores. They are inexpensive and work great. A must for any kitchen.
on 4/30/2008 It works for me before. thanks for sharing anyway.
