I've had this problem and tried everything, including Windex, but nothing worked. I finally had it cut off, but don't waste your money at the doctors! Go to a qualified jeweler and they will cut it off for FREE in less than a minute. Then, if you wish, they can enlarge it to fit, for a fee.

Another way to remove a stuck ring is to put a length of dental floss between the finger and the ring, then lather the finger or use mineral oil or cooking oil to make it sippery. Roll the length of dental floss around and around the finger. The ring will come right off. You do need to have the finger cool. We use this method in the Emergency Room, but I will not charge you $27 for this information!

I am almost six months pregnant and have noticed that my engagement/wedding bands have been increasingly tight. At 12 or 13 I sprained my left ring finger while playing basketball and since then, that finger has been more swollen than the others. I've also gained some weight. These three things in combination have made my rings extremely difficult and next to impossible to remove. My husband and I have tried soap, hand lotion, ice water & elevation (to reduce the swelling), windex, wrapping my finger (like the orthopedic surgeon suggested) and nothing has helped. I'm going to have my rings cut off by either a fireman or jeweler. I'm leaning toward the jeweller as they will be able to fix it afterward.

Oh my goodness! After trying everything I could possibly think of in my home that was slipper (KY, conditioner, olive oil, dish soap, etc...) THE WINDEX ACTUALLY WORKED! I held my already swollen finger over my head with ice for ten minutes and proceeded to spray my finger with the Windex..it took 30 seconds, some twisting and pain but it came off! Thank you!!!!!!

Yup, I'm an idiot! I wore a ring already a bit too small to bed. I too woke up at 3am to my finger throbbing! Don't ice your finger, as it will make the metal shrink somehow. Maybe ice around your finger to numb the pain as you pull it off. But I tried everything and that sucker just did not want to come off! Lo and behold the magic of Windex! It came off with tons of Windex, twisting and pulling and PAIN! I'm so glad because I was just about to go down the fire dept to have my wedding ring cut off :(

OK, so it's 3am and I wake-up to find my hand thobbing. I look down and my hand was quite swollen. The finger with my ring on it was almost purple. I tried soap and nut oil to get the ring off but the swelling just got worse. Then I turned on the computer and found this sight. I tried icing and than windex. It seemed like it was going to work but the ring just wouldn't go over my knuckle. I started to freak out. I came back to my computer to see if there was anything else I could do and found the extra steps...1. Soak hand in ice water for 45 secs. 2. hold hand above head for 5 mins. 3. work dental floss under ring (To give you leverage) 4. sray a ton of windex all around your finger and ring 5. with your other hand wrap a thin towel around a couple of fingers and then wrap the floss around tight to give you a firm grip ( the towel keeps the floss from cutting you) 6. with the floss, twi

Sorry.. tried everything under the sun INCLUDING Windex and NOTHING WORKED!!! NOW my finger is skinned from trying to twist the ring off and I fear my wedding band and engagment rings will both have to be snipped off. I just hope they can be repaired!! :(

Ohhh my....WINDEX DOES WORK...I woke this morning after a long day yesterday w/ re-plumbing my house only to find my left hand swollen. I could not even turn my wedding and engagement rings. I tried Palmolive, ice and twisting...nothing worked...I sprayed windex Gel spray and after working it in and under my rings, they came off...Real RED and SORE but Relieved

Oh My God....Windex is my new best friend...my husband and I tried everything to get my wedding/engagement ring set off...I don't know why my finger just suddenly swelled up, but it was turning blue, we tried berts bees, other slimy stuff... soap, water, icing...holding my hand above my head, finally we just kept spraying windex while my husband slowly twisted it off... IT REALLY HURT, but it finally came off...my ring finger is so much larger then my other fingers right now, but I am so glad it is off... not putting my ring back on for a while... lol.. thank you to everyone who recommended windex, I never would have thought to use that on my own!!!!! I love love love you guys!!!!

In some cases these techniques may not be feasible as your finger may become swollen to 2x the size of the ring. It hurts very badly and waiting for the swelling to go down or icing it for a long time may not be an appropriate solution. This morning, a ring got stuck on my finger and we tried everything to get it off, but it was just getting worse. I was at work and was in immense pain. A coworker found out that there is a "rescue station" at the local fire department that has special tools for cutting off a ring. He drove me there and in 20 seconds the ring was off. They were happy to help me and just concerned because my finger was purple and hot. If the ring that is stuck can be repaired then I suggest getting it cut at the fire department.

Windex works!! I iced my hand over my head for 5 minutes, then sprayed windex and twisted, sprayed and twisted, until I worked the ring off my finger! What a relief!
Step 1 - cool fingers in cold water
Step 2 - hold hand up in air for 5 minutes
Step 3 - thread dental floss under ring
Step 4 - spray window cleaner on ring & finger
Step 5 - use dental floss to pull in a screw fashion
Step 6 - gradually ring will be pulled along finger
Step 7 - ring is off!
