on 7/31/2008 You should never put baby oil in your hair, it is really bad for it. All you need to do to get tangles out of wet hair is saturate the hair with conditioner and use a wide tooth comb, combing from the roots up. Rinse as usual.

on 5/16/2008 i have been told by a hairdresser that if one tries to comb tangles out while still wet, more hair will come out than is really necessary, hence best to do it while dry. i agree though that it seems easier when the hair is wet but for those BIG knots that kids seem to grow, combing them out dry is probably safer.

on 8/22/2006 Using a comb, all I have to do it gently pull at the knots little my little. Gently. Don't tug really hard, because it hurts if you do that.

Also, I use L'Oreal kids shampoo and immediately comb my hair afterward. The tangles are usually easier to get out.

on 8/21/2006 I have very thick hair, so I take a shower and wash my hair after I get out my pool. When I am done washing it, there are still some tangles, so I will take my hair as if I am putting it in pig tails and then brush it.

on 8/8/2006 I personally use Pantene Pro-v smooth and sleek conditioner, it leaves my hair soft. If I do however have knots, I comb starting at the bottom and work my way up. This way definitely works better and saves you from the pain.

on 8/3/2006 My hair is straight and long. It used to take forever to get the tangles out after washing it. My aunt, who has had hair past her waist for her whole life taught me this tip when I started to grow mine out. It's so easy and works great. After putting conditioner into your hair, rinse and brush it at the same time with a paddle brush while your hair is under the running water of the shower. After that, I rub a dime size dab of conditioner into my palms, apply to my hair, squeeze out excess water then wrap it up in a towel. Hope this helps!

on 7/29/2006 When I brush my horse's mane and tail, I work my way through tangles by pulling hair after hair out of the knot. I found that the same method works perfectly with tangles in your own hair! It helps even in seemingly hopeless cases!

on 6/30/2006 1) Wash your hair at night. Use a fair amount of conditioner and rinse very well.
2) Don't attempt to brush or comb, it will break any damaged hairs. Spray in plenty of Infusium 23 to cover all your hair.
3) Wrap your hair in your towel from the shower and leave it on all night.
4) In the morning, use a large, wide toothed comb, starting at the ends and working upward.

This method really cut down on my problem tangles. Good luck!

on 4/3/2006 I comb my hair section by section with a wide toothed comb, beginning with the ends and then work my way upward. That way it's painless and saves my hair from split ends.

on 3/29/2006 I have had long hair all my life. Because I have long curly hair I have to wash and style it every day. I wash with Burt's Bees shampoo and use a natural inexpensive conditioner ($2 at Trader Joe's). After washing, I separate my hair and pull it to the front of my shoulders as if I have two pony tails. I cover both with conditioner and then let the shower flow the water down my ponytails. I'll play with one side first and gently separate it with the water doing most of the work. Then I'll add conditioner again and using a wide tooth comb, start detangling the bottom inch of hair. Once free of tangles, I start two inches higher and comb through. Then three inches, and so on. I work the knots out with the help of the slippery conditioner and the flow of water.

You're doing it in phases and they'll ease out quickly, and you won't be combing a knot down onto another knot. Every night I braid my hair loosely (I don't even need a rubber band) and that helps me keep from making more knots during the night. In the morning, I ease the knots from the day before in the shower.

And thank you to everyone for all your conditioning suggestions. I'll try the yogurt, oil, fenugreek tonight!

on 3/20/2006 1. Use any conditioner and leave in for at least 15 minutes.
2. Soak in hot water.
3. Brush it with a comb or brush.
4. Put it up in a pony tail, then finally your hair perfect!

on 3/13/2006 After taking a shower, brush hair while drying it. Dry it all the way until it is completely dry. Braid it or ponytail it if it is before you go to bed. In the morning, take the braids out, put cold water on hair, (just a little splash) brush, and dry if necessary. This works great-I have long, wavy dark brown hair that is thin, but a lot of it!
