cleaning oil off concrete is not so hard per say, making the shadows disappear is another problem. concrete is absorbent and will have the same stain underneath.

Before using any harsh chemicals, try cat litter. The old cheaper clay kind works well if you can find it. Don't know about the new stuff, but it should work. Crush the litter into the stained area then brush off. If you've got a deep stain it may take a couple of applications. Far as I know, (clean) cat litter is not an environmental hazard & not dangerous so long as you don't inhale too much dust. -

I used the saw dust method and scrubbed it real good and then a little bit of water. It picked up some of the stain and then I used some distilled vinegar and left it for few minutes and that definitely helped to clean up the spill. I decided I'm going to leave the vinegar over night and see what happens. I'll keep you all posted.

My truck had slow oil leak and it left my garage concrete floor with oil stains all over it. That is when I found this product called OIL GONE EASY HOME & DRIVEWAY S-200. All I had to do was to pour the solution on the stain and leave it for as long as possible. When I washed the floor after that, all the stains had vanished.

There are a number of products available now that work and are environmentally friendly. I've used Eximo on my concrete driveway, but I've seen other products too like Oil-Out. Just sprinkle these products on, spread them out with a broom, and leave it - got rid of my oil stains in about a week. Much easier, and much safer than dealing with all the hazadous chemicals, or "hazardous waste" you create with kitty litter.

I used steps 1-3 above. They were a good way to prepare the surface and remove fresh spills. In order to get the older stains, I skipped to the paint thinner and cat litter method. It worked great! It rained before I swept up the cat litter and it still worked. Very cost effective. Definitely recommend.

Environmentally Friendly Solution - If you want an environmentally friendly way to clean it, try a product called eximo concrete cleaner. Unlike kitty litter, you just sprinkle it on, and leave it there - you don't have to throw away the hazardous waste afterwards. It's also alot easier than kitty litter, because you just sprinkle it on, and use a broom to spread it out. I picked some up online for under $20, worked well in my garage and on my driveway.

The cat litter tip is the best way to extract anything from the concrete. You still need something to separate the stain from the concrete. I saw this tip years ago, and it has worked for oil stains 10 years old. Before you spread the crushed litter, pour paint thinner over the entire stain. The thinner should go past the stain, don't be skimpy. Then, cover with litter and leave overnight. The next day, just sweep it up and voilà!

I had tried everything to get an old oil stain out of our driveway. The cat sand had helped a lot, but there was still a large dark spot. I tried just about every home remedy and also most of the industrial de-greasers before coming across Pour n' Restore. This stuff is amazing. You pour it on, let it dry and sweep up the powder. It worked so well that I had to go get more to do the rest of the driveway. Having a big clean spot looks almost as funny as having a big dirty spot!

An excellent solvent. Spray it on, let it sit and then hose the driveway (or garage) down.

Just use liquid Tide and a stiff brush or push broom and hose it off. It usually takes the oil stain right off.

I can't believe how well the cat litter worked on cleaning away oil spots. I poured it on the stain and simply stepped on it, crushed some of that cat litter down on the stain making it a bit powdery, and slide my foot all over it. It took the stain right off, and that stain was there for a few weeks. I used a store brand. Good luck!

I used cat litter and powdered it with a hammer. I let it stand for 15 minutes and scooped it all away. I repeated it once more. It worked great. I used the Johnny Cat brand after talking to someone else who had used it before.

Put powdered laundry detergent over the oily spot. Leave it there for several days (if it rains within 2-3 days, re-apply). The rain will eventually wash the powder away, along with the oil. You will wind up with a clean spot on your driveway.
