on 9/13/2008 A better way to avoid stuff on your windshield, is to use Aquapel. It will prevent gunk from sticking to your windshield. Also running your pump dry is not good i think the liquid helps to lube & cool the pump just like in a gas tank. You should never run a gas tank empty either, it will cause mass damage.

on 4/27/2008 I once heard that using soap (like dishwashing liquid) can also damage the pump? Something about the pump would make suds inside the pump, but it's made to pump liquid, not bubbles. Then you'd be back to pushing the button with no liquid coming out, because there are bubbles in the way.

On the other hand, I think it's a good bet that the simple alcohol mixture in washer fluid is mostly for anti-freeze purposes -- it's not a very effective cleaner. But it's the season to get washer fluid with bug-splat-remover or RainX. (I think RainX is great -- you can run your wipers slower than without it.)

on 12/16/2005 You should try not to hit the button when the reservoir is empty, because that can wear out the pump. Try to check the level frequently. If you do press the button, and nothing comes out, make sure you remember to fill it as soon as you can, and don't hit the button again until you do.
