Our dishwasher isn't draining the water. The dishes are getting cleaned and nothing seems to be blocking the drain. Any suggestions?

The dishwasher is filling up, but all the water is remaining in the bottom and none coming through the jet propeller located in the bottom. Therefore, none of the dishes are getting wet or cleaned for that matter. It drains and fills properly. Any suggestions?

I keep a pair of long, angled-end, pointed tweezers in my utensil drawer. They're very handy for plucking bits of food, hair and broken glass out of the traps and water distribution holes.

My Kenmore dishwasher, about 15 years old, suddenly stopped draining. I was stumped until I disconnected the drain hose from the drain pump connection beneath the unit. When the hose came loose from the pump connection, a marble size white ball fell out onto the floor. I then removed a little U or W shaped plastic bracket wedged into the hose. Finally, I figured out that the ball is part of a check valve designed to keep the sink from draining back into the dishwasher and the loose bracket is supposed to keep the ball in place. The loose ball was doing the opposite of what it was supposed to--it was stopping out flow. I should replace the whole assembly, but I re-inserted the ball into the check valve and popped the bracket in place to hold the ball in: Presto, drainage!

Just installed, wouldn't drain. I followed all applicable tips and found a clump of junk in the back-top-of-sink-overflow-spout which I cleaned and replaced. Then I noticed that my minutes-new machine had a "cancel/drain" button on the console that I hadn't noticed and I pressed it -- it drained perfectly! I must have opened the door in the middle of the draining and didn't know the new machine had this button. Duh.

My dishwasher drained very slowly, usually leaving standing water after the cycle was done. There is some kind of valve that is attached to the drain hoses. The valve had a silver cover and was on the top rear of the sink. I removed the cover, took the valve apart and cleaned all the gunk out of it. Problem solved.
