We used a combination of nail polish remover, hydrogen peroxide, Resolve carpet cleaner, Extreme Hold hair spray, a damp sponge and about 45 minutes of elbow grease on light beige carpet. After you vacuum over it a few times the stain should come up.

I went right to the Internet after I spilled red polish on an off-white carpet. What worked for me?
Nail Polish remover, scrub, Spot Shot carpet cleaner, scrub, soapy water, scrub, clear water. Lots of paper towels to blot up the excess moisture.
Seems to me the thing that works is the scrubbing, more so than any product. I used a vegetable brush and it took me at least 30 minutes, but that stain is gone!

I spilled bright red Opi lacquer nail polish on my light beige Berber carpet. Thanks to one of the eHow tips, I used shaving cream and warm water with some vigorous scrubbing and the nail polish came out!

I used Palmolive dish soap and Peroxide. Dab and scrub. Got it from another site after trying shaving cream, SOS pads and Oxy Clean, all of which were useless.

Rubbing alcohol saved my brand new carpet. Nail polish had been on the carpet about 2 weeks while I tried to figure out what to do. I poured the rubbing alcohol right on the stain. I had to let it soak a couple of minutes, but my brand new carpet was saved. You would never know anything was ever spilled.

My friend was on the phone and I was painting my nails and I tipped the bottle over. We rushed off to the computer to find out how to get the stain out (hot pink polish on a beige carpet) before my parents found out.
We first tried nail polish remover, which got out most of it, then shaving cream, which didn't really work, and finally an SOS pad, which lived up to its name! The problem was solved and not a stain to be seen!! Plus, the parents never suspected a thing. ;)

Shaving cream actually did work. The stain didn't completely come out, but it lightened it a lot, plus it was the only thing we had in the house at the time. Thanks very much for your tips.

We had a mishap where about half a bottle of orange fingernail polish was spilled on beige carpet. It was a mess! We tried numerous methods we read on the Internet, and I have to say the best was the OxiClean. It did seem to bring it up some, but even then, we still had a lot more to go. Then I thought about the polish remover and an iron. We saturated the carpet where the polish was with nail polish remover (with acetone in it) and allowed it to sit for approximately 15-25 seconds. We then took our regular clothing iron and a white towel and begin to iron the spots that remained. We wet the white towel (make sure you use only white, other colors may run and then you will have a bigger problem on your hands), and placed in on the carpet and then used to hot iron to iron it. We could instantly see the difference it was making. IT works, it was a life saver for us! And it did not harm the carpet either. I hope this can help someone else who finds themselves in this unfortunate situation.

I freaked out when I dumped nail polish on the carpet. We were afraid that polish remover would damage the carpet. My husband saved the day by reading the back of the polish bottle and realizing that alcohol was a main ingredient. He used rubbing alcohol to cut the polish. He poured it right on the carpet, used his fingers to rub it in and then used paper towels to blot it up and it came right off. This was dark pink polish on light beige carpet. I was amazed at how well it worked. And most people have rubbing alcohol around the house.

I moved into my university accommodations a week ago yesterday and my friend spilled red and blue nail polish on my bedroom carpet! My immediate reaction was to look to see if I could rearrange the room to hide it. After figuring out I couldn't do that, I tipped acetone nail polish remover on the stain. This didn't do much, so then I came here, read the hairspray tip and realized I had some. It worked! I just sprayed the hairspray directly onto the stain and then scrubbed. I poured a little water on the stain and rubbed again, and it was all gone! Thank you!

Please try the shaving cream tip. I purchased a brand new home and spilled red fingernail polish on brand new carpet. I read the shaving cream tip and I was shocked beyond belief that it came out! Thank you!

I recently spilled red fingernail polish on white carpet and quickly got on the Internet to find out how to take it out. There were many great ideas, but I only had the shaving cream handy. Trust me, it really does work!

on 6/30/2006 Use nail Polish remover, then follow up with shaving cream. Then saturate the area with water. Then scrub, scrub, scrub. It works!

on 2/21/2006 After my wifes nail polish bottle broke on our carpet and dried overnight, everything came clean using rubbing alcohol. This stuff works!
