I used Palmolive dish soap and Peroxide. Dab and scrub. Got it from another site after trying shaving cream, SOS pads and Oxy Clean, all of which were useless.

After my wifes nail polish bottle broke on our carpet and dried overnight, everything came clean using rubbing alcohol. This stuff works!

My friend was on the phone and I was painting my nails and I tipped the bottle over. We rushed off to the computer to find out how to get the stain out (hot pink polish on a beige carpet) before my parents found out. We first tried nail polish remover, which got out most of it, then shaving cream, which didn't really work, and finally an SOS pad, which lived up to its name! The problem was solved and not a stain to be seen!! Plus, the parents never suspected a thing. ;)

Rubbing alcohol saved my brand new carpet. Nail polish had been on the carpet about 2 weeks while I tried to figure out what to do. I poured the rubbing alcohol right on the stain. I had to let it soak a couple of minutes, but my brand new carpet was saved. You would never know anything was ever spilled.

Please try the shaving cream tip. I purchased a brand new home and spilled red fingernail polish on brand new carpet. I read the shaving cream tip and I was shocked beyond belief that it came out! Thank you!

It works! Spray it on the fingernail polish let sit for a minute or so and then scrub the area with a towel. I've got a teenager who puts this method to the test at least once a month.

My boyfriend saved my fleece shirt and my parent's carpet (which had red nail polish stains) by spraying a carburetor cleaner on it. This is an automotive product that is normally used to clean the carburetor in an automobile, but it worked great on the carpet and fleece shirt! Just spray it on the spot, let it sit for a few minutes and then scrub it with a damp rag or towel. The chemical smell is very strong, so that is the only downside. After you are finished, mix Dawn dishsoap (or something similar that is a de-greaser) and scrub the area. The area will look just like new. It is great. Follow up with some room spray. I am not sure how well it would work on other items, so you may want to do a small test spot to make sure that it will not destroy it. So far, we have never had a problem with it.

I happened to spill nail polish on my cream colored carpet. I had no idea how to get it out, so I began to try random things. I poured the nail polish remover all over the stain and that took most of the color out. Then I continued to pour rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide on the stain. I then took some toilet water and sprinkled it around. Eventually, after rubbing in every direction, the stain came out and it can't be seen today!

Simple green full-strength worked wonders on removing dry purple fingernail polish from taupe carpet. The polish had been there for 2-3 weeks. I soaked the area with the Simple Green, let it sit for about 5-10 minutes and soaked it up with paper towels with minimal rubbing.

I had just spilled raspberry blush nail polish all over my mother's beige carpet. I had half an hour before she returned home. Frantic and anxious, I began to search online for quick tips. Everything, to my dismay, had disappointed me and time was running short. I quickly began to run through the household goods, trying to find my own solution. At last. I found a box of SOS pads and without hesitation began to scrub away. It was working, but there was a blue ugly residue left behind. That residue quickly disappeared after I applied a hot towel to the mess. After a few minutes and a little elbow grease, everything was back to a beautiful, unadulterated sandy beige.

We had a mishap where about half a bottle of orange fingernail polish was spilled on beige carpet. It was a mess! We tried numerous methods we read on the Internet, and I have to say the best was the OxiClean. It did seem to bring it up some, but even then, we still had a lot more to go. Then I thought about the polish remover and an iron. We saturated the carpet where the polish was with nail polish remover (with acetone in it) and allowed it to sit for approximately 15-25 seconds. We then took our regular clothing iron and a white towel and begin to iron the spots that remained. We wet the white towel (make sure you use only white, other colors may run and then you will have a bigger problem on your hands), and placed in on the carpet and then used to hot iron to iron it. We could instantly see the difference it was making. IT works, it was a life saver for us! And it did not harm the carpet either. I hope this can help someone else who finds themselves in this unfortunate situation.

My husband and I own a carpet cleaning business. We have run into so many problems with people using Simple Green. It has turned the carpets a different color when we steam clean.

Use cleaner called Awesome. Put Awesome on the nail polish spill, add few drops of water and use your fingers to scrub the spot. Wipe with a towel to remove excess suds and lift the color off. Add Awesome and a little water as needed.

Shaving cream actually did work. The stain didn't completely come out, but it lightened it a lot, plus it was the only thing we had in the house at the time. Thanks very much for your tips.

I moved into my university accommodations a week ago yesterday and my friend spilled red and blue nail polish on my bedroom carpet! My immediate reaction was to look to see if I could rearrange the room to hide it. After figuring out I couldn't do that, I tipped acetone nail polish remover on the stain. This didn't do much, so then I came here, read the hairspray tip and realized I had some. It worked! I just sprayed the hairspray directly onto the stain and then scrubbed. I poured a little water on the stain and rubbed again, and it was all gone! Thank you!

My daughter spilled fingernail polish on our rug and it was a big mess! Forget all the fingernail polish removers and dry cleaning solvents! Spray on Simple Green (get at any food store), wait 15 minutes and rub it out, then flood with water and clean it up with a towel. It worked perfectly and no chance of damaging the rug.

I did use the nail polish remover because that was all I had. I followed it up very quickly with very hot water with an oxy-clean carpet liquid, and blotted (not scrubbed) until it came up. I might also add that I had just had my carpets cleaned about 10 days before and had them put the carpet protector on my carpets. I do believe that helped it come out. The polish was cherry red. I about had heart failure when the lid came off, but all ended well!

I recently spilled red fingernail polish on white carpet and quickly got on the Internet to find out how to take it out. There were many great ideas, but I only had the shaving cream handy. Trust me, it really does work!

I just removed dark blue fingernail polish from the middle of my daughter's hunter green carpet in her room! I had my doubts but Simple Green was life saver. Thanks for the tip, and I will definitely pass this on to my girlfriends!!
