Comments on How to Buy a Prom Dress That Will Turn Heads

Online shopping is useful. I'm in the UK and there are many options to getting a prom dress online; but I would suggest allowing up to 2 weeks delivery and returns. I bought a dress and had to get the next size up and returned it, luckily I had received my new dress within 3 days.

If you order a dress from the Internet or catalog or even a store, be sure to order it as early as possible. I ordered a dress 3 months in advance, but did not get it until the week before the dance. The dress company lost my dress, and when they tried to get another one and resend it, they sent the wrong size dress to the wrong store. So make sure that you order as early as possible to ensure time to find a backup in case something goes wrong!

Try using the yellow pages to find a seamstress that can make your ideal dress for a small price. Ask to see a sample of their work. You can work together to produce the dress that is right for you!

I found my prom dress and my friend's prom dress on eBay this year. My dress cost me 25 dollars, and that included shipping. Make sure to get the dress early enough and big enough to get it altered. In my case, I bought it my size, and it fits like a glove.

Before throwing out the Mall as a shopping option for your prom dress, keep this in mind: Clothing stores that sell prom dresses, will keep a record of the style and color of the dress, who it is sold to, and the name of the school the buyer attends. This will help ensure that no one will have the same dress at your school. There is still a possibility that someone from another school was invited to your prom. They may have purchased the same dress. I highly doubt that the two of you will have the same hairstyle, makeup, or jewelry. So have fun, and shop, shop, shop!

Always buy your dress off-season! It's ludicrous to spend $300 on a dress that was selling for $50 a month ago. They cycle these things through every season, trust me. I've had my eye on the same dress for almost four years; they never have it in my size when they "retire" it! Another great place to look is in the evening wear department of an upscale department store. You won't see the same styles they have in the teen area. These are more "grown up" and definitely unique (and, also, in my experience, more comfortable. There are no size 0's with boning). Trust me, no one else will think of it. Bridal shops and departments also always have a bridesmaid clearance rack; sometimes you can find some great stuff.

Look for dresses off season! I've bought my dress off season every year and only pay a fraction of what my friends have paid for their dresses! The dress I bought for my junior prom was only $12 dollars!
