I make my own bread, and when I don't finish my bread loaf I dry it out and save it, until I have enough to make bread pudding. It is a good way to use it, and being home made bread, it is only better! Use Cardomom if you want a wonderful flavor.

I just made a batch of bread pudding using stale wheat bread. I was afraid the taste would be "off," but the pudding turned out just fine! Also, I always add about 2-3 chopped-up apples as well. This dessert is great for breakfast!

1. Using sliced bread, cut it into 2 triangles. 2. Spread marmalade on the bread. 3. Place the bread in the baking dish so that the (uncut) corners point upwards (like mountain peaks). These will give a crispy topping to the pudding.

on 12/14/2008 I like using cinnamon raisin bread or stale croissants too. Thanks for the reminder it's snowing outside and this sounds delicious.

on 11/22/2005 I use old donuts, but you need to cut the sugar.

on 11/22/2005 When using sandwich bread, toast sides of bread (medium), then butter one side before cutting into cubes.
