Thanksgiving Wine Tips

  • Try a wine that would go with any other simply roasted bird, such as a French or Californian Beaujolais Nouveau (red) or Sauvignon Blanc (white).
  • For grilled turkey, look for a medium-bodied Californian Pinot Noir, or fruity Zinfandel.
  • A spicy wine, such as a fruity Gewürztraminer from California, will go with the sweet-spicy dishes.
  • For a vegetarian menu, consider a robust red, such as a Syrah or a Sangiovese if there are tomato-based dishes.
  • A slightly sweet German Riesling or Gewürztraminer or French Rosé should go with many Thanksgiving dishes.

Wine FAQs

Question Answer
My guests just arrived, but I forgot to put my white wine in the refrigerator! As long as you have at least seven minutes, you have enough time to chill your wine, using a rapid chiller like the one featured here.
This is my first Thanksgiving and I can’t open a wine bottle to save my life! Like anything else, opening wine takes practice - but Thanksgiving Day is not the best time to do this. Open a few bottles ahead of time, and make sure you have a decent opener.
I practiced opening wine, like you said to do above, how do I keep it all from going bad?! A little oxygen can bring a wine alive, a lot can kill it. If you want to store the wine for any period of time, get a stopper.
