The "lit from within" look that skin gets in the summer is attributed to two major factors. First, the skin is subject to tanning since you spend more time outdoors. Tanning thickens the skin, giving it a healthy pigment and luster. Second, the often-humid summer environment hydrates the skin and gives it a more dewy appearance. Skin becomes more pale as the warm months melt into autumn, but that doesn't mean you have to give up your summer glow. You can achieve a natural-looking, bronzed and dewy complexion with the help of a few products.

A tinted moisturizer provides light coverage, quenches the skin and doesn't weigh it down like heavy foundations or concealers can. The tint adds a little color, giving you a dewy, fresh face without making it look like you're wearing a ton of makeup.

Bronzing beads give a little extra dimension to your skin compared to standard bronzers, explains Rea Ann Silva, inventor of BeautyBlender and makeup artist to celebrities such as Jennifer Love Hewitt and Carmen Electra. "Avoid anything that has a glistening effect," she says. "Matte color is more natural."

After applying a bronzer, Silva suggests "adding a hint of blush to your upper cheek bone and tip of your nose." She recommends blending the color up toward your temples for a more natural look.

To really hydrate your skin, apply a facial serum or oil every night after cleansing. "No matter your skin type, using a luxurious, chemical-free, natural oil on your skin overnight will help you achieve naturally dewy, light-reflecting skin," says Silva.

Apply a highlighter anywhere the sun would hit your face. That includes the upper cheek bones, lower forehead, nose bridge and even the bottom of your chin. Silva also recommends applying to the interior corners of your eyes and creases around your nostrils for "added dimension and natural glow."

Sunless Tanner

In addition to creating that endless summer glow on your face, consider an all-over faux tan. You can have this done professionally or use an easy-to-apply product yourself. Try a lotion that gradually gets darker with each application if you're wary of looking like an oompa loompa.
