Meryl’s Choice: Coral

In early February 2012, Meryl Streep attended AARP’s 11th Annual Movies for Grownup Awards as an honoree looking classy in a coral silk dress that complemented her hair and skin coloring. Streep dressed tastefully, with a fresh face of makeup, a beautiful smile, and her age-appropriate, draped dress. At age 49, Streep had noted, “I think yourself emerges more clearly over time.” To date, at age 62, we couldn’t be happier with her emersion (and peep-toe lace pumps!).

Meryl Streep defines elegance in this timeless chiffon gown. With her hair pulled back and a wide belt to highlight her figure, Streep embodies the ultimate red carpet beauty at the Screen Actors Guild Awards in January 2012. We agree with reporter Jodi Hill’s assessment in the “Examiner,”, “[w]earing a Vivienne Westwood gown, the stylish actress gave a look of sentimental fashion with a dash of maturity that ushered her in the award show.”

Even though Streep claims “clothes are a kind of character; I don’t follow fashion or understand trends,” there’s a reason why fashion designers obsess over her. Here, Streep poses with Italian designer Valentino, who happens to be a fan of Streep’s work, at the Fashion Group International’s Night of Stars in 2005. Streep dons one of Valentino’s creations: a crisp, white scoop-neck blazer with a matching pencil skirt.

In June 2008 at the UK premiere of “Mamma Mia!,” Streep dressed as the iconic film star that she is in a classic red, mid-calf length dress and edgy leather belt. To complement the bold satin sheen of her Donna Karan wrap dress, Streep wore over-sized shades and minimal makeup, which showed off her youthful skin. Envious? We are too! Streep confided with “New York Daily News” that her secret to a youthful glow is staying out of the sun and not drinking too much alcohol.

Made for Meryl

At the 82nd Annual Academy Awards in March 2010, Meryl Streep decided to let the famed Project Runway alum, Chris March, do her design for the evening. Streep looked breathtakingly beautiful in this white gown as she walked the red carpet. She even passed in E! Fashion Police’s eyes as “critics Jay Manual and Guiliana Rancic [raved] about Streep’s elegant, yet streamlined look.”

The Iron Lady

Meryl Streep plays the part of Margaret Thatcher, Britain’s first female prime minister, in her most recent project, “The Iron Lady.” The costume design in this film consisted of navy skirt suits and brooches to decorate the blazers. Streep brought a modern touch to Thatcher’s signature color with a flowy blouse, belt, and peep-toe pumps. "The Fashion Court" noted her effortless style in this “deep blue silk Stella McCartney blouse with a calf-length skirt.” The bold color and details pulled this classic ensemble together, letting Streep embody the strong leading lady that she is both on and off screen.

Looking Prime in Purple

At the Academy Awards in 2005, Streep looked regal in an impressive, plunging-V purple gown. As “MyDaily” reported, “without an award on the line, Streep had her biggest Oscar fashion victory to date in this breathtaking purple gown.” As she presented the Honorary Academy Award, her timeless beauty shined in this embroidered mermaid gown.

At the 2012 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts’ Awards, Streep was seen wearing a Cacharel Fall 2011 piece. This piece’s oriental design infused with a kick of the 70s was the perfect balance of daring and moderation for Streep. She wore this outfit with confidence and poise by completing it with opaque tights, closed-toe navy pumps and golden hoop earrings.

Despite being in cold weather, Meryl Streep flashed a warm smile as she greeted fans at the Europe Premiere of “The Iron Lady.” Streep wore a Stella McCartney black dress and a complimentary navy coat to ward of the cold London weather. She finished the outfit off with a divinely elegant Fiona Paxton statement necklace. She nailed the color combo in this outfit by keeping the color hues simple, yet eye catching.

Timeless Beauty

Meryl Streep may not be a fan of bright color on the red carpet, but we’re completely okay with that! She was the epitome of a classic beauty at the Golden Globes in January 2010 in her sleek black gown with her hair pulled up in a chic bun. Streep let her dress do the talking by pairing her outfit off with elegant earrings. Streep went home with the “Best Performance in a Motion Picture” award, which beautifully complimented her attire. As Vogue so eloquently put it about Steep’s demeanor, “it is not just her accents that change from movie to movie. At her best, it’s her essence.”

A Shining Moment

Meryl Streep looked stunning in her gold Lanvin gown at the Academy Awards in 2012 when she won Best Actress for her role in "The Iron Lady." According to the "Washington Post," Streep is wearing the first "eco-friendly gown" produced by the French design house in support of the Green Carpet Challenge, a non-profit created by Livia Firth, the wife of actor Colin Firth. Streep looked gorgeous as she accepted her second Academy Award since 1983. She dazzled the audience and millions of viewers in gold earrings, her draped lamé gown (made from sustainable fabrics) and bronze sandals.
