Should you wear bronzer or blush? Celebrity makeup artist Tsipporah Liebman, who has worked with the likes of actress Dianna Agron and singer-songwriter Kelis, explains some of this season's best -- and less than best -- blushed and bronzed looks. She clarifies everything from why bronze is great for red heads -- to how fair-skinned gals can put their best cheeks forward.

This British bombshell allows her natural beauty to shine with neutral makeup choices. "Kate Beckinsale totally gets it right," says Liebman. "The neutral tones warmly define her cheekbones, with the eyes and the lips being more the centers of color on her face, so no overkill. For this look, I love using Giorgio Armani Blending Blush Duo in #1 (rose pink/earth frost). Simply swirl a blush brush into the light cream duo and contour your cheeks. The cream gives a natural, soft look."

Rooney Mara's Fierce Look

A long way from her "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" style, Rooney Mara is sophisticated, elegant and beautiful in her timeless awards show look. "Rooney Mara hits a home run with her blush," says Liebman. "It's the right, light shade of pink and compliments the rest of the make-up. Most of her make-up has more of a matte finish. To add more dimension to this look, use RMS Living Luminizor. It gives the skin a nice sheen that's not greasy. And the entire line is organic! You can use a concealer brush to put the highlighter on the top of your cheekbone or use your finger and then simply blend with your finger, using light taps to evenly cover the highlighted area."

While her yellow dress made a fashion splash, Maria Menounos' cheeks left us for wanting. "Maria Menounos definitely doesn't overdo it, but if she wanted a little more shaping in the cheek, she could definitely put on just a bit more bronzer without going overboard," says Liebman. "Something with a golden undertone, more than a red. This would work beautifully with her dress and the highlights in her hair. I like MAC's Bronzing Powder in Golden."

Every new girl should have a best friend like Hannah Simone to get makeup tips from. "Hannah Simone rocks a nice neutral blush," says Liebman. "It brings out her cheeks without overdoing it since she has more drama going on around her eyes. NARS' peachy, pink powder blush in Amour is a good shade for this look. Just dust lightly only the apples of the cheek, moving slightly up the contour or the cheekbone."

There is "no more drama" with the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul's stellar makeup. "Mary J. Blige looks gorgeous," says Liebman. "You can see her golden undertones shining through with the slightest hint of bronze and even a little color on the apples of her cheeks. Benefit's 10 Bronzing & Highlighting Face Powder Duo is a great product for this look. It's not super shiny which is nice if you tend to already have a natural glow."

This Golden Globe winner did not need any help when it came to her makeup choices for this year's award show. "Octavia Spencer sports a nice blush with a brick orangey/red-ish tone," says Liebman. "It matches her skin tone beautifully. To streamline the look and have it blend more with the plum of her eye makeup, Bobbi Brown blush in plum would be a beautiful choice. She could also opt for dab of the same blush in the cranberry shade on the apples of the cheek instead."

Who says you can't have fun with makeup at a formal event? Kathleen Robinson rocked bright colors in the best of ways. "Many props to Kathleen Robinson for rocking bright colors in a completely complimentary way," says Liebman. "The orangey-red lip pops so well against the turquoise earring and at the same time makes the green and yellow in her eyes really pop out. The brightness of these colors really shine through nicely on a bronzed face more than a fairer one. If she wanted to go just a touch lighter in shade she could. Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder in 61 Desert Corail is a lovely choice. Just use on the cheeks and a little in the temples. You can even slightly warm up the forehead. This will make your face match your neck."

This "Young Adult" star looked all grown up in her stunning Dior Couture gown with makeup to match. "Charlize always knocks it out of the park," says Liebman. "Just the slightest touches of pink on her porcelain skin compliment her gorgeous blue green eyes. I'm a huge fan of Dior's new Garden Collection and think this look would be beautifully achieved with their blush in the petal shade."

It's okay to mix it up when it comes to cheek color. "Heidi Klum is wearing a nice bronze with a neutral, dusty rose color mixed in," says Liebman. "The touches of pink work well with the touches of gold on her eyes and the touch of pink on her lips. Soleil Tan de Chanel Moisturizing Bronzing Powder in 63 Terre Ambre is a good choice for a look like this on a medium skin tone."

There is no doubt this look gets a stamp of approval from Reese Witherspoon's new hubby. She also gets a stamp of approval on her flawless makeup ... exhibit cheeks. "Reese wears soft pink beautifully," says Liebman. "She highlights the shape of her cheek without overdoing it at all."

Debra Messing knows just when to add a touch of color. "She looks stunning with a bronzer that has a hint of color," says Liebman. "Estee Lauder's Bronze Goddess Soft Shimmer Bronzer gives a great blend and compliments a red head very well."

Jessica Chastain proves that less is more with her pale blush choices. "She has such soft, light features and such amazing natural bone structure," says Liebman. "Keeping it light really shows her natural beauty. I'm a big fan again of Dior and Chanel's petal shades for this soft, ballerina beauty look."
