A minimalist always looks stunning in a simple frock and statement jewelry, but adding layers to an outfit is an easy way to spice things up a bit. You can layer casual getups that are perfect for errand-running or afternoon chardonnay, or look glamorous in a layered ensemble fit for a romantic evening with your special someone. Wherever -- and however -- you choose to layer your outfits, have fun with it and don't be afraid to mix colors, textiles and trends.

Sporty Layers

Reality show star Khloe Kardashian cheers on her husband, Lamar Odom, while looking lovely in layers. Chapeaus are a fashion-forward do that make any outfit better. Try yours in a bright shade like Kardashian's, or wear a neutral-colored hat for a more reserved look.

'70s layers

Actress Cameron Diaz channels the '70s in this layered ensemble. Her white jumper is straight from the era, but she brings it into the 21st century via a dark denim jacket, skinny belt and neutral heel. Layer your jumper with a jacket, blazer or cardigan and multiple necklaces to pull it all together.

Masculine Layers

Though reality TV star and designer Whitney Port typically gives off a flirty, feminine vibe, her loose blazer and clunky shoe give off a more masculine edge in this ensemble. She demonstrates that layered outfits look good with a shorter hemline and boyish apparel. To keep the pretty alive in such an outfit, keep makeup and hair soft. In addition to layering garments, try layering contrasting prints as Port does.

The silk kimono-meets-cardigan garment worn by actress/singer Miley Cyrus is definitely a showstopper. She layers the look even further by pairing it with a black mesh undershirt and tribal-inspired necklaces. When mixing cultures, as Cyrus does here, find a common theme among them. In this case, it's the black and peachy hues.

Monochromatic Layers

Actress Anne Hathaway demonstrates that a monochromatic layered look is just as impressive as a colorful one. She's wearing a black jacket over a black dress over black leggings with a black, peep-toe pump. Monochromatic layering works well with neutral colors like black, gray and white, but doesn't fare well with more saturated hues like yellow, orange or pink. To make your outfit pop, add a contrasting clutch as Hathaway does.

Katie Holmes keeps it casual chic with husband and fellow actor Tom Cruise. In this case, she's chosen to accent her legs via a sheer legging, short hemline and neutral pump that elongates her entire body. Subscribe to minimal layering like Katie by wearing only two or three colors and a single print that pops.

Leather Layers

Actress Sarah Jessica Parker is arguably one of Hollywood's biggest fashion icons, so take a cue from her leather layers. The shorter leather jacket lets the asymmetrical hemline of her shirt shine, creating a unique layering effect. The hat on top ties everything together while the colorful shoes -- which also give off a layered vibe -- give her outfit a more playful feeling.

Long Layers

Delfina Blaquier, model-turned-photographer, looks nothing short of stunning in her long, layered ensemble. She pairs a cast of neutral whites, browns and grays with a vibrant, flowing scarf around her neck. Mimic this look by layering garments in pale colors -- think beige, gray, white and cream -- and then adding a final layer element in a vivid hue like pink, purple, red or green. The final piece can be bangles, necklaces, shoes, a hat or even a bag.

Pastel Layers

Blond-haired actress Olivia Holt looks fresh and flirty in her pastel layered look. Her black undershirt peeks out ever so slightly underneath her flowing, yellow tank top and floral-printed scarf. Try a shirt or dress that has built-in layers, like Holt's does, and then pair it with either an undershirt or outerwear. The playful printed scarf, in this instance, makes her outfit more flirty.

Leopard Layers

Leopard print reigns in this outfit worn by actress Vanessa Simmons. She's chosen a silky leopard tank top to serve as the main event, but pairs it with a black blazer to tone things down a notch. Notice how the cuffs of the jacket also sport a leopard print fabric, pulling her entire look together. When worn poorly, animal prints may look cheap, so the key to making them work is to wear it minimally with non-clashing colors. Accessorize lightly, as Simmons did, with chunky bangles or a necklace.
