Furniture is manufactured from several different types of leather. The most expensive type is known as vegetable-tanned leather, which is pliable and very stretchy. Furniture may also be constructed of chrome-tanned leather and oil-tanned leather, both of which are less expensive and less pliable than vegetable-tanned leather. Rawhide is another option as well as buckskin leather which is very soft and water friendly. Each type of leather must be properly cleaned and maintained to keep it looking its best. A dark colored leather sofa is easier to keep clean then a lighter sofa, especially if the sofa is white or cream colored.
