The beer pong game was invented at Dartmouth College in the 1950's and is occasionally referred to as Beirut, a name with origins that have been tied to both Lehigh and Bucknell Universities.
While the modern game involves tossing ping pong balls into opponents' cups the early versions were based on adaptations of ping pong and consequently involved table tennis paddles.
Today the beer pong game has become such a staple on college campuses, tailgating parties, and backyard BBQs that it's become a part of popular culture to such an extent that it's been featured in such main stream media outlets as Fox News, Time Magazine, ESPN, and even the Wall Street Journal.
While there are a variety of rule adaptations that are most often divided by geographical borders the basic premise remains the same: eliminate your opponents cups before they eliminate yours and above all else make sure that everyone has a good time.
