Types of Soldering Iron Tips

Use the Coldheat soldering gun to execute small soldering jobs in seconds. The cordless Coldheat tool transfers heat faster than a soldering iron or solder gun. The tip of a Coldheat gun is made of two separated electrodes that become a circuit when connected by touching the conductive metal of solder, wire or a connector terminal. How to Maintain a Solder Iron

Modern soldering iron tips are nickel- or chrome-plated iron, with a copper core for efficient heat transfer. Solder will not adhere to plating, so the tip end is not plated. The exposed iron cladding, which accepts, holds and transfers molten solder, must be maintained periodically to prevent rust and oxidation, ensure proper melting temperature, and keep unwanted buildup of solder and contaminants. A few simple maintenance procedures will ensure your soldering iron will operate properly, and will extend the life of the tip and heating element.
