Brown Seaweed & Weight Loss

Brown seaweed is a vegetable from the sea and also an edible seaweed. It is also referred to as brown kelp, Undaria pinnatifida and wakame. Brown seaweed contains an ingredient called fucoxanthin that can help promote weight loss. Fucoxanthin is found in brown seaweed in high concentrations and is found in smaller amounts in red and green seaweed. Although brown seaweed contains fucoxanthin, there is no evidence that eating brown seaweed in large quantities will promote weight loss.

As an algae, seaweed belongs in the kingdom Protista, meaning it's neither a plant nor an animal. Seaweed Weight Loss

A new weight loss theory involves a diet that includes seaweed or seaweed supplements. The theory holds that seaweed as a diet supplement can improve metabolic function. There are two components found in seaweed that have been widely discussed regarding weight loss: iodine and fucoxanthin. More studies need to be done to substantiate the claims about seaweed consumption and losing weight. As Mayo Clinic nutritionist Katherine Zeratsky suggests, there is no substitute for a healthy lifestyle with diet and exercise, even if seaweed is proven to improve metabolic function.
