How to Use an Analog Multimeter on AC

Analog multimeters performs the same function as digital multimeters, but the analog part of the description refers to how the information the multimeter measures is presented to the user. In a digital multimeter, the meter displays numbers on a display. For an analog multimeter, the information is presented as deflection of a needle across a dial face. Properly reading the numbers on the dial face behind the deflected needle is essential in obtaining an accurate measurement of the alternating current (AC) voltage.

Analog Multimeter User Instructions
