How to Make a Bench Vise

A vise is a tool used for holding or clamping items together to bond or work on with other tools. Vises usually have one fixed jaw and a parallel jaw, which is moved towards or away from the other jaw by the use of a screw. A bench vise is simply a vise that clamps to a table or work bench for a more stable surface and can be operated by one hand. These are usually made of metal and are very heavy and costly. The following is a guide to making a rudimentary bench vise with a few wooden boards and small vises.

How to Make a Finger Ring

This ring will be of braided wire. First, using the tape measure, measure your finger for the desired size. Make sure you can slide it over the thickest part of your knuckle.
Take the three pieces of wire and lay them side by side on your firebrick.
Clean the ends of the wire with the steel wool until shiny. Brush a little flux onto the ends and solder the ends together, using the minimum amount of solder to make finishing easier.
Clamp the soldered end into the vise and carefully braid the three wires, making sure the braid twists and loops are even. Clean, flux and solder the braided ends together, use a piece of tape or other wire to hold the ends together while you solder. Let it cool!
Lay the braid flat on the bench vise, or a small anvil if you have one,and tap with the mallet to flatten the wires just a bit.
