Making a self-propelled go-kart is possible and almost free, if done the correct way. Doing so requires that you combine a little ingenuity and resourcefulness with a working knowledge of go-kart racers.
John Deere began manufacturing snowmobiles in 1971 and continued to manufacture snowmobiles through 1984. The JDX model, produced between 1973 and 1975, had a reed valve motor. Reed valve motors consist of a one-way valve that lets fuel move into the engine and then closes, using the internal pressure changes to open when the pressure is low and close when the compression increases. Installing a new reed valve is necessary if the petals between the cylinder and carburetor break.
The John Deere L110 was produced from 2003 to 2004. The L110 was equipped with a 17-horsepower Koehler 1 cylinder engine. The steering system on the John Deere L110 includes a steering wheel, shaft, steering gear and front end steering components. Determining the reason for the steering being locked up requires examination of the entire system. Certain steering components will need to be removed to completely test the steering system and to make the appropriate repairs.
Motor mounts are more than just doodads that keep your engine from dropping to the tarmac. They actually perform numerous vital functions that affect the overall driving experience from acceleration to handling and braking. Of course, they also have something to do with ride comfort and noise isolation, but that's probably not your top priority as a hot-rodder.
John Deere is one of the most well-known and respected brand names in outdoor equipment. The company got its start in the 1830s when founder John Deere created a cast iron plow that was superior to other plows of the age and that helped cultivate the Great Plains. In 1912, the company moved into the tractor manufacturing business, and by the latter part of the middle 20th century it had begun to make lawnmowers for consumers. Older John Deere lawnmowers are considered classics by collectors because of their history and lineage. Restoring an old John Deere lawnmower takes a lot…

Changing the blades on your lawnmower is never really a fun task. This is especially true for riding lawnmowers such as the John Deere L130 where you have to remove the lower deck assembly before removing the blade. Having the right tools for the job is also essential for getting the job done and if you have the L130 and only standard measurement tools, you won't be able to get your blades off to replace the bolt.
While kit cars have been around almost as long as the automobile, the industry itself has remained small and specialized. Blakely Auto Works was founded by mechanical engineer and former oval race track enthusiast Dick Blakely in the early 1970s. The company produced three popular kit cars during the 1970s and 1980s -- the Bantam, the Bearcat and the Bernardi. Although the company changed hands and locations in 1979, ultimately closing its doors in 1989, the original kit cars are now considered collector's items among kit car enthusiasts.
The John Deere 314 is a garden tractor that was manufactured between 1979 and 1983. The 314 has a one-cylinder gasoline engine with 14 horsepower and a two-wheel drive chassis. The tractor transmission is hydrostatic with a 5-quart oil capacity and infinite reverse and forward gears. When owners are performing routine maintenance on the tractor or are experiencing transmission problems like low transmission fluid or a fluid leak, identifying the transmission vent may be helpful.
The Husqvarna Group is a Swedish outdoor power equipment manufacturer that markets its chainsaws, trimmers, mowers and lawn tractors to customers in more than 100 countries. In Husqvarna lawn tractors, the transaxle is an integrated assembly that combines the transmission, differential and other related drive components. Purging the transaxle transmission system clears the hydraulics of trapped air. Husqvarna recommends purging the transaxle before the tractor's first use and each time the component is removed or replaced.
Machines and machine parts come with innumerable specifications, including bolt torque specs. Determining torque specifications for bolts on the electric clutch of a John Deere GT235 garden tractor requires some research. Unlike major specifications like engine power and product size, manufacturers don't generally provide specs for marginal elements of a machine like bolt torque. You need to understand the basics of torque, bolt torque and some basic bolt terminology to figure out bolt specs for your GT235.
The mower belt, like the belts used in automobiles, ensure the machine runs properly and smoothly. Removal and replacement of the belt are much like replacing a serpentine belt in your car -- you'll need to route the belt correctly around the pulleys to ensure it pulls the correct way. Safety is essential when installing a belt or doing other maintenance work on your John Deere mower. Belt removal and installation are the same on the 48- and 54-inch mower decks.
Go karts with both wheels under power use a live axle drive. This means that both wheels are bolted to a solid axle. The axle is driven by an engine via a chain and sprocket almost exactly like one that powers a bicycle. The easiest way to build a live axle go kart is to use an old lawnmower frame. This type of frame is larger, and most of these already have a live axle and steering gear already in place. The only thing you need to do is mount a motor, clutch and sprocket.
The John Deere L130 is a 23-horsepower riding lawnmower that can go up to 5.5 mph forward and up to 3.2 mph in reverse. The mower has several enhancements, including an automatic transmission option, cruise control, an 18-inch turning radius and a Kohler motor. The mower, which can be fitted with a snow blade or blower and a mulching unit, has a large towing capacity. John Deere's owner's manual for the L130 recommends specific transmission oil for the L130.
A go-kart, also known as an off-road buggy or shifter kart, is a simple designed vehicle with a small body, four wheels, seats and brakes. Additionally, some go-karts have engines, such as a motorcycle go-kart, while others are designed with pedals to move. Building a motorcycle go-kart would require using major motorbike parts. In addition, installing some parts requires professional expertise since safety is a priority. For instance, engine installation necessitates hiring a mechanic.
Like the belts in an automobile, the belts on a John Deere mower have specific duties that ensure the machine runs properly. Installing a mower belt incorrectly can damage your mower or cut off the power. Before removing a belt, follow standard safety procedures to ensure you don't get hurt by any moving or hot parts. The 38-inch and 42C decks follow the same procedure for removing and installing the belts. If you have a different mower, download the manual from John Deere's website for the proper belt route and detailed instructions (see the Resource section).
The Mitsubishi Lancer GTS is the upper trim level family sedan, and the Sportback version is a five-door hatchback. The Sportback is slightly larger than the sedan and is available with GTS trim. Roketa is a well-known Chinese power-sport manufacturer that produces a line of off-road go karts with engine sizes ranging from 90 to 800 cc. The 250 cc models rely on a continuously variable transmission mated to an external gear box, providing the go kart with the choice of a forward or reverse gear. The gear box is lubricated internally by its own oil supply, which must be changed every three months. Doing so is not particularly difficult, but does require a few special tools to extract and refill the gear oil.
Problems with switching a deck on a John Deere GT275 mower can occur when preparing to remove the old deck and while installing the new deck. The deck's belt, pins and suspension arms in particular are common trouble points. You can prepare your John Deere GT275 mower for the deck switch and fix belt, pin and suspension arm problems regardless of your experience with John Deere GT275 troubleshooting.
Tractor pulling, or power pulling, is a popular motorsport in Europe, Australia, Brazil and the United States. The initial tractor pulling championships in the United States were conducted in Missouri and Ohio in 1929. By the 1950s, they became a regular feature at most county fairs. The early versions of the sport required the participants to pull heavy sledges with their tractors, the winner being the one who pulled it the farthest. As the technology improved, the tractors and weights have been modified and standardized rules have been established by the National Tractor Pullers Association. Some hobbyists prefer to build…
Whether three- or four-wheeled, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) are sources of fun for thousands of people. Because of their versatility and off-road capability, ATVs also are used as work vehicles for towing, pulling and hauling. Plow attachments are commonly attached to the front of riding lawn tractors. However, there are smaller plow attachments that can be connected to an ATV. In order to attach a plow to an ATV, a plow mount must be made and installed on the ATV.
John Deere is a name synonymous with lawn and garden equipment, offering customers everything needed to maintain a landscape, including lawnmowers. Despite a reputation for dependability, the company’s line of push lawnmowers isn’t immune to some maladies, one of which is a stuck pull cord. Luckily, this is a DIY fix that will not require the services of a small engine repair technician.
The John Deere 318 lawn tractor comes with a three-point hitch and hydraulic system that allows the use of special attachments, such as a garden plow or snowplow. Attaching a plow involves three attachment points using pins supplied with the hitch. This allows you to raise and lower the plow for optimal use.
A John Deere 31 rotary tiller is a machine designed to break up and cut soil, primarily in preparation for planting. The Deere 31 rotary tiller is no longer manufactured by John Deere, but owners and potential buyers of a used tiller should understand the basic information about the machine.
The John Deere Company makes gas-powered, walk-behind snowblowers. As a safety mechanism, their snowblowers are equipped with shear pins inside the auger shaft. Shear pins are typically made of softer metal than the shaft. If the auger malfunctions or something obstructs it, the shear pin will break and cease the auger’s mechanical function. Although a broken shear pin prevents major damage to your John Deere snowblower, it’s possible that the shear pin can get stuck when this happens.
Yamaha's Raptor 660 sport ATVs use an electric starter motor to bring their engines to life. The starter motor itself is little more than an electromagnet, which relies on a spinning, shaft-like armature attached to a round circular commutator. A set of carbon brushes provides an electrical charge when the starter button is pressed, turning the commutator through magnetism. A gear attached to the end of the armature then turns the engine's starter clutch until internal combustion can provide sufficient power to operate the engine. A damaged starter motor can be rebuilt, but only after performing a battery of tests.
The foot pedals on a John Deere lawnmower may not be at a comfortable height for all users. Adjusting the seat height can be sufficient to correct this in some situations, but others might require further correction. Pedal extenders can be added to the pedals to allow smaller users to comfortably reach them. The pedal extenders used in cars can be used on lawnmower pedals as well.
The Dyna and Sportster lines of Harley-Davidson motorcycles are both made up of cruisers. While several bikes and models over the years have fallen under the Sportster name, the Low Rider is a specific model within the Dyna range of bikes. Generally speaking, Sportster models have been smaller and more affordable bikes compared to the Dyna range, and the Low Rider is no exception.
Yamaha's Warrior 350 series of all-terrain vehicles use a friction-based clutch to transfer engine power to the transmission and rear wheels. A series of fiber and steel plates are held tightly together within the clutch during normal operation. These plates separate when the clutch lever is pulled in, isolating the engine from the transmission. A slipping clutch is a common problem, which prevents the clutch plates from maintaining their grip against each other. This is often caused by wear and can be remedied by replacing the clutch plates as a set.
All carburetors used on Yamaha's line of all-terrain vehicles are affected by the slow degradation of gasoline during storage, which results in a goo-like substance that will clog the carburetor's fuel jets and passages. Draining the carburetor prior to an extended storage period will prevent this sticky situation from occurring. While many of the smaller Yamaha ATV models provide unrestricted access to the carburetor, most larger utility and sport models hide the carburetor behind the front fender. The draining procedure is similar; however, the front fender and any accompanying body components must be removed from the larger models.
The John Deere TRS 21 snow blower features a drive belt that must be properly tightened in order to ensure efficient machine operation. A loose John Deere TRS 21 belt can result in complete engine failure, even in the middle of using the snow blower to clear your lawn and walkways. You can access the belt and tighten it regardless of your knowledge of more complicated snow blower repairs.
Your John Deere's 4240 diesel engine relies on a spark plug for ignition and an air filter to control air intake into the engine and ensure proper performance during operation. You can swap in a new spark plug and air filter parts in order to optimize the output of horsepower on your John Deere tractor. Previous experience with operating and replacing the spark plug and air filter is not required.
The John Deere STX38 is a lawn tractor that was manufactured between 1988 and 1997 with a black or yellow deck. The engine is a one-cylinder, 12.5-horsepower model with a gas tank that holds up to 1.25 gallons of gasoline. Steering is manual, and the tractor has five speeds. However, if the tractor does not go into reverse, there are a few elements to troubleshoot.
The Massey Ferguson 1533 and 1433 farm and agricultural tractors share many characteristics. Farmers use both machines for the same jobs. Similarities included the 1533 and 1433 sharing Japanese-manufactured three-cylinder Iseki diesel engine with similar output ranges. But the 1533 version is a slightly larger, more robust version of the 1433 with greater fuel capacity, while the 1433 had more versatile transmission options.
The STX38 was a riding mower model produced by famed agricultural manufacturer, John Deere, during the 1980s and '90s. Although it is no longer made, many homeowners still use STX38 mowers in good condition. Steering wheels navigate STX38s, and this model comes with yellow or black mowing decks. Founded in the mid-19th century, John Deere is one of the oldest agricultural manufacturers in the United States.
ATV is a catchall acronym that stands for all terrain vehicle. It refers to many types of vehicles that are not designed for on-road use. ATVs are intended for use over rough terrain. While many ATVs are used purely for recreational purposes, some are manufactured specifically to be work vehicles. The John Deere AMT 622 is such a utilitarian vehicle.
The John Deere 56 is a 6-horsepower riding mower with a 28-inch deck, available with either a pull-start or electric ignition system. Starting problems can generally be narrowed down to issues with the "safety start" system, ignition or fuel system. By following a logical order when troubleshooting, the source of the starting issue should become obvious.
Since its foundation by a blacksmith 1837, the John Deere company has manufactured a wide range of agricultural implements, from tractors and riding mowers to tillers and backhoes. In 2006, the company offered the 9780i CTS, a harvesting combine for cutting, threshing and cleaning. When it comes to specs, the CTS was the top-of-the-line combine when compared to the similar 9540i, 9560i, 9580i, 9640i, 9660i and 9680i WTS combines of the time.
Vintage go-karts just may be motor sport Americana at its very best. Some pay top dollar for fully restored models, but haven't go-karts always been about scrappy ingenuity? This could be a something that you found in a junkyard or online auction or has long been sitting around the garage. Restoring a vintage go-kart is a project well within the reach of someone with decent mechanical skills, albeit a venture with many variables. This guideline is for a functional, rather historical go-kart restoration, and does not strictly adhere to the use of vintage stock parts.
John Deere front end loaders (FEL) are available in a variety of sizes, from small lawn and garden tractors to full-size farm machinery. One of the advantages of the FEL is the variety of implements and ease at which these parts connect and disconnect from the vehicle. A quick detach receiver hitch is easily fabricated, and adds the ability to pull trailers and carts with a traditional ball hitch receiver to the FEL.
The design of go-kart wheels and drive systems varies according to anticipated use and road surfaces. Karts intended for pavement or hard surfaces benefit from a fixed axle drive wheel design. In the fixed axle configuration, both rear wheels rotate independently on flanged bearing hubs riding on stationary axle spindles. Only one of the rear wheels is driven by the chain sprocket, the other rotates freely. This design allows the rear wheels to turn at different speeds during cornering, greatly improving handling on paved surfaces. Fixed axle drive wheels are also more easily installed and removed than rotating "live" axles.…
Go-karts are fun for zipping around a small racetrack or off-roading through a large yard. Typically, go-kart runs on a small, gas-powered engine similar to those found on a lawnmower. Starting one of these engines doesn't require much mechanical knowledge, but may call for some elbow grease. After a winter season spent resting in the garage, your go-kart may need some basic maintenance before it's ready to tear up the track.
John Deere recommends lubricating the pivot points of the front axle assembly and mower deck spindles every 25 hours. Each of the pivot points has a grease fitting. Getting to the grease fittings in a John Deere LA100 lawn mower does not require removing the mower deck. It does, however, involve removing the spindle cover on the left side of the deck. The best way to get to the grease fittings on the front axle is to raise the mower off the ground.
The John Deere lawn mower has a mid-mower deck, also referred to as a mid-mount mower deck, that can become damaged over time, resulting in an inability to use the mower's blades. A new mid-mount mower deck can be lifted up onto the bottom of the mower and installed with a number of pins and spring retainer clips, all of which are included with the new mower deck. You can install the John Deere's mid-mount mower deck and put your lawn tractor back into a proper operating condition even if you have no experience with mower deck installation.
