: Here are a few additional tips.
-Be wary of sales or promotions when you register a domain as they are only good for the first year of the domain registration. When the domain registration autorenews the price you pay can increase dramatically.
-Private Registration is where your personal details that you use to register the domain (name, contact info etc.) are hidden from public view -- this is something that many people find desireable. However many registrars charge extra for this service (it can double or triple the cost of the registration). 1and1.com and Netfirms are two registrars that include private registration for .com domains at no extra charge.
-A good site that compares prices for different registrars and is kept fairly up to date is http://www.domainnamepricer.com. 1and1, Netfirms and GoDaddy all seem to rank well on this site in terms of price.
