I gave up trying to burn neat V.oil, after building several burners using hot oil, Hago siphons and a compressor, for one good reason. Unburned oil gets in the boiler/furnace and coats everything in unremoveable tarry resinous varnish! This will eventually ruin any heat exchanger. And no matter how you adjust the Hago's pressure regulator, the dying air will suck a few drops of unburned V.oil out of the fuel line and nozzle at burn end. Ditto the first milliseconds at start up before the flame establishes. I now use a regular Pressure jet burner, [similar to the Beckett], and run it on a 20% V.oil / 80& diesel mix. I have a day tank of 30 liters to make mixing easier. No heaters necessary, no adustments, other than my service guy running/adjusting the CO/oxygen/soot check. The V.oil must be filtered to better than 20 microns or it will eventually clog any nozzle. I use a centrifuge...
I recommend people spent some extra money, and get a waste oil heater that is built for this purpose, and UL listed for safety. Such equipment can be found at http://www.econoheat.com What good is the burner if you can't actually use it?
