Good article. However, a reason to choose atheism rather than agnosticism is that religion may be an institution that ultimately damages society, and should be resisted. By compromising intellectual thought, standing in the way of reason and scientific progress, and establishing itself as a wedge to be used for selfish political purposes, religion should perhaps be viewed as a damaging force and not something that is deserving of theoretical toleration. By looking at religion and its historical conflicts as well as hypocrisies, there is ample justification to be found for defending a 'theoretical atheism' in addition to a practical atheism.
