Please clarify step 5 - filters-blur - which blur? motion blur again? And really don't understand why have to apply a layer mask from your directions. Is this something to do with the eliptical marquee tool selection? which is supposed to highlight the area upon which to apply the effect. How do you 'highlight' with the eliptical marquee tool? So far I do have a very dramatic lensbaby effect, but it applies to the whole image, with everthing zooming to the dead centre of the image! thanks.

NEVER paint from a photograph. A photograph is 2 dimensional, and your paintings will (and do by the way) look flat and dead. I live in a country where this is common practice and it is not 'art'. I really can't see the point of taking a snapshot of say, a pepper, and then attempting to recreate it in paint! Just set up a still life, the word 'life' being of the utmost importance here. Take a portable easel outside, or a sketchbook and do some preliminary colour sketches as an aide memoir if that is not possible. You will really see the difference and a vast improvement in your work.
