Dear brwmkw, sorry to hear about your pain. While I can not give treatment advice in this forum, I suggest that you see a local musculoskeletal doctor for starters, and see what results you get from there. Also, if you go to my website www.TailboneDoctor.com and enter your email in the yellow box it will sign you up for a newsletter that will give more info. than I can fit here.

Sorry to hear about your tailbone pain. Sit-ups can indeed cause coccyx/tailbone pain. While I can not give formal advice in this forum, I can say that in general patients with tailbone pain should have an in-person evaluation by a doctor with experience in evaluating/treating this. This might need to include xrays, MRI, injections, etc., and in a limited number of cases it may include surgical removal of the coccyx (coccygectomy). If you go to www.TailboneDoctor.com and enter your email in the yellow box it will sign you up for a newsletter that will give more info. than I can fit here.

I got booted from the army about nine months ago. My tailbone got very sore when i was doing situps and i couldnt handle it anymore. I went to the army doctor and he said that my tailbone was deviated to the left. I want to join a branch of the military, but am afraid it will happen again. If i get surgery will i be able to join again, and be able to do situps without pain. Do most insurance plans cover this type of surgery?

My pain just came about suddenly.. No injury or nothing just started hurting with each day getting worse. It's to the point now I can hardly sit. Just as the article stated I sat on one side leaning kinda forward, sat on one leg, etc. But now nothing is working, and it's starting to be pretty painful to stand and walk. It's driving my crazy, and I can't find a doctor that's been of any help... All I hear is "you had to have injured it Mrs. ..., this just doesn't happen." But then I got on the net and found out about coccydynia. What I am experiencing sound just like it.. Please someone help me!!!!! What type of doctor do I need to go to for help? I so need some relief of this excruciating pain.

Thank you for responding. How do I know which kind of bone scan was done. The report says NMbone Img mult HCPCS: 78305 shows on the anterior view, there is no abnormal uptake in the coccyx, but this i partially obscured by the bladder. Also, can you have foot pain from prolonged standing and walking Driving a standup fork lift. Worker's Comp denied claim stating contusion when Dr. diagnosed displaced coccyx.

To answer your question about bone scans... Bone scans are sometimes used to look for fractures (especially to confirm that a fracture is acute, meaning recent) and to look for certain types of cancers. Coccyx bone scans often need to be done with SPECT. A typical bone scan (without SPECT) fails to show the coccyx well, since the frontal view of the coccyx gets blocked by radionuclide in the bladder.

Is a bone scan used to find out about a dislocated coccyx? The dynamic x-ray showed 60% dislocated. It was a on the job injury.
