i doubt this, the noise you are reffering to is likely generated in the analogue part of the signal chain (interference through mains hum elecromagnetic/ long cables cross noise etc) once the signal gets into the digital realm there is not much short of corrupted files that will affect the recorded sound, unless is has been processed to add noise of course. also in my experience an external hd will not free up any cpu resources unless you are within 15 - 20% of your internal drives capacity, it is advised to use different drives for both the recordings destination and the os/program which is running tho.
