There is a really neat organization in Long Beach, CA. that accepts toys, stuffed animals and even child car seats for recycling. They held an event that I attended recently where they showed that many of the large second hand organizations are so overwhelmed with toys, especially stuffed animals that many of them get tossed into their giant compactors and are hauled off to landfill. This organization (Disposal Alternatives) is dedicated to turning this around by making sure that anything that is not or cannot be reused gets recycled.
