sir, what you know is based on your own small experiments with food and diet, what i have written is a direct outcome of extensive medical research. if your cholesterol numbers are out of wack then you wont benifit from 'dietry modifications' you probably need multiple cholestrol lowering medications. please see your physician for that. refrence to my articles is: http://www.uptodate.com/ more »

this reply is for 'Jane'. thanks for leaving the comment. I do not agree on saturated fats being good. Diets high in saturated fat are correlated with high incidence of atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. coconut oil has medium-chain fatty acids that may increase the HDL / GOOD cholesterol however, whether the benefit of increasing the good cholesterol is higher than the risks of increasing the bad cholesterol remains to be seen. The American Heart Association recommends reduced consumption of saturated fats, including those found in coconut oil (until research confirms otherwise). Please, also see my other article titled 'How to increase good cholesterol more »

this is an excellent article. i give it full stars. the reason i am saying so is because there are multiple instances where people just purchas the most expensive medications for 90 days and developed rash or other side effect related to it and their MD asked them to stop taking it...they can't return them to the pharmacy. then there are people without health insurance who need these medications desperately but can't afford them. donating your old medications could be a great opportunity for people who can't afford them. i support this idea strongly. more »
