Co-Writing can be like a marriage, you can have lots of fun and success. Just remember to have a wriiten Co-Write Agreement as to who what where and how that resulting copyright is going to be administrated should the writers have a Dis-Agreement! One writer might be of the opinion that your song should only be recorded by a Thrash/Metal band and the other writer really does not care who signs it. This may sound like an over simplified example; but it could prevent a copyright from being seriously considered by a publisher. Cheers, NJ
One way is called "immersion" where you surround yourself with the people you want to imitate. That's how Hugh Laurie did his American accent for "Stuart Little," "House," etc. Some have a knack for imitating accents Robin Williams has a real knack for impersonations. It is just practice... you have to put yourself in a new way of communicating and feel that you ARE that character. They hire dialect coaches, spend time conversing with people who naturally have that accent, and then just practice, practice, practice! Sounds like you've either been there or live there. Yes Nashville is a writer's town and co-writing is king. I had an idea for a song once and co-wrote it with Don Pfrimmer and another writer. We finished it and 3 days later George Jones put it on hold. (So why didn't you cut it George? lol) I spent 12 years there and am moving back later this year. Thanks for the fine article.Joe Russjoeruss56@gmail.com
Interestign choice of songs. its funny, i almost followed this formula 15 years ago.... spooky.
Pretty amusing idea for an article; I especially like Step 2. :-)
Thank You for the advice
hi kelli....thanks for the kind words...as far as broadcasting school, I come down on the side of "never hurts to have too much education"....having said that, though, broadcast school, unlike, say, law school, is no guarantee of a gig...commercial radio is a very political industry...as we say, "it's not who you know OR what you know...it's who you know AND what you know".....good luck to you..besafe sep
This is terrific advice. Just wondering... Is broadcasting school a good idea? I've been considering that.
I love the Beach Boys, and this is a terrific article!
