This receipe is better than the other one(4907046). Some like them without any (dried)fruit and some with candied ginger or even with dried meat(without the sugar. They are eaten from christmas(or rather the shortest day 21dec) to a few days in the newyear. The history goes back to the time when people dried their fruits, vegetables and meat for the hard wintermonths. When fresh food became scarce, they mixed dried food with flour (and salt ,herbs?), folded it around a stick and baked it in a fire. Later this became more fancy: baked in oil, with sugar. At wintersolstice (midwinter in dutch, also the name for christmas in some parts of Netherland) the 'oliebol' was baked as wel as nutricious soups/stews and drunken with bear of course as part of the festivities that stem from before the christianization(1000AD). The dutch donut on a stick is a precursor for the glittery balls hanging...

try putting the rum in with the banana mixture and igniting it right before the bananas are done and if you use banana rum, there is no need for the liqueur...
