It's loads of fun doing your own knotwork design, and best of all it lets me put it into weird shapes such as using it in the negative space of a drawing of something else. It's easier for me to do it freehand with this method when filling weird shapes than to try to find an ancient design exactly that weird shape. ... more »   respond »

Experiments are the only reliable knowledge when it comes to color mixing, because each brand of each color mixes just a bit differently and you have to find out what your paint does. ... more »   respond »

by robertsloan2 on 10/05/07 : A nice variation is to make the inside of the ribbon a contrasting color, say, gold. This helps distinguish the shading a little better too. Keep the edges the main color or darker color though. ... more »   respond »
