Thanks for asking the question regarding legal concerns when starting a private lesson business in your home. Please remember that I'm not a lawyer and can't dispense legal advice. However, the general principles of business dictate that you should be protected from liability and in compliance with laws governing the execution of your business. In regards to a home owner's policy covering you, I'd check the policy with your agent or attorney. If your current policy wouldn't cover such liability you may be able to get one that does. Usually the availability would be contingent upon your business being legally authorized to be conducted in your home. Many localities allow for this with a home occupational license. If you can't get one of those, consider moving your location. One method I suggest in my private lesson course is subleasing space on an hourly basis.
