When you consider where to plant your mint, remember that, like any herb, it attracts some insects and repels others. Ants don't like mint but flies love it! more »

I like the bit about old business. When I was on city councils, it sometimes smelled like something the dog left. On one, we had a "consent agenda" and then new business, finishing with a question from the chair whether there was unfinished business. Another council I served on had old business-new business. In my experience, unfinished business could be business from the current meeting as well as something laid on the table six meetings back. In my experience, specific bodies have their own requirements and establish their own agenda forms. It doesn't matter what you call it as long as you take care of what you started doing in the past before you start a lot of new stuff. more »

As a retired judge, I think that this article's a bit ill-advised. Why would you want to sue a judge? You would appeal a decision that you feel is erroneous. If you question the competence or impartiality of the judge, you would file a complaint with your state's judicial commission? Suing the judge would adversely effect the activities of two courts and intimidate public officials who could make a better living in private practice anyway. Or maybe that's what you're after... more »

Stop asking for help, dear and start helping yourself. Perhaps they need to be convinced that you can be a responsible owner. Try bargaining with them by doing chores, jobs that need to be done. Or get a job and save your money. They have lots of responsibilities and you need to establish that you're grown up enough to handle responsibilities competently and thoroughly before they can trust you to act like a grownup. Or, I suppose, you could just keep whining until they give in like they did when you were 2. Hey, maybe that's the point--you're not 2 anymore. more »

Number 3 is undoubtedly the most satisfying way to do this frustrating job but don't try it if you have rough cedar or veneer woodwork. There is such wonderful wide painter's (special blue or green tape that will hang on yet pull off easily for up to four days) tape out now--and it's so much fun to zip off a long stretch of it for the reveal--that it really makes more sense to mask. There are also very narrow trim brushes with pointed tips, much like your artist's brushes, that work well, too. more »

By all means, be civil but don't admit that you knew you were speeding--cops love to tell judges that drivers were aware that they were breaking the law!The ticket itself generally should have a court date, including time and date, on its face. The court address and address for correspondence is always on either the front or back of the ticket--you have to have proper notice for the citation to be valid. If you go to court on this date or send a letter (this is called entering a plea of not guilty)telling the court that you wish to plead not guilty, you should ask for a pretrial conference with the prosecutor. The DA or city attorney will often make a proposal once he or she knows the facts of your case which, if approved by the judge, this "pretrial disposition" will settle your case and (perhaps) save you dollars (in my court, traffic tickets started at $75, court assessments and costs more »
