Santa Lucia is the Bringer of Light into the darkness, and as such a tradition well worth keeping up.The Scandinavian winters are long, dark and cold, and Santa Lucia brings in the Hope, the Light and the Strength to go on...she is celebrated in all Scandinavian countries, not only Sweden.

I think, that a bird that has had a mate most all of her life, deserves to get another mate real soon after the first one passed away.Real soon.No toys can replace a living companion.Get the new mate, and keep him/her in a cage next to the lonely one for a few days or a week,to let them get used to each other. Then move the new mate in.Some toys may come in handy at this time,to get them something to concentrate combined efforts on,and form a bond. This way the period of lonelyness will not have time to make the bird sick and depressed.New adventures, and new love, will keep them happy :)
