I will automatically reverse fees for a first time offense, but from the banking side of things, we need to protect our merchants, most merchants can't afford the fees assosiated with return checks, so we offer our customers over draft protection so they are responsible for the fees and not the merchant, most merchants would have to stop taking personal checks if the banks had not come up with a plan for customers to have overdraft protection. Honest mistakes are unforseeable, continued use of your overdraft protection is like using a loan from the bank. If you know you don't have the funds to cover whatever you need then make it worth the fee.. If you need food and payday is a week away, get cash back too for gas.
